AAU Wrestling request

The director of AAU wrestling in Tennessee ask for suggestions to inprove wrestling in Tennessee. What do

you think will inprove the sport in Tennessee. He has

offered support in helping teams set up there own

tournament for us without all the tools and knowledge.

 

Remember what your mother said, " if you cant say something good,,, shutup"

 

Here is a few I thought of

a. Fall (pre season)Tournaments

b. AAU Tournaments on the same day in different parts of the state..ie Sevierville and a Nashville area school the same day.

c. A interstate I-65 region,, (yes, all people from top to bottom of Tennessee around that major hwy.

d. A west Tennessee group.

A good way to improve wrestling in TN would be to have a Team TN that goes around to large out of state tournaments. We have A team TN but as far as i know it only competes once down in Chatanoga. The Younger kids have to qualify for the team by winning a tournament and the high school team is usally composed of the state champions. Now if this was made into a traveling team that goes to states such as Michigan Illinois and Oklahoma, it would be a great experience for lots of young kids. I know many other states such as Ohio have a traveling team that takes a hole summer and goes all around the country to wrestle, thats an experience a kid will never forget.

This is a great suggestion. Last year, Tennessee AAU sent kids to 4 National events: National Elem. Duals, the Ohio Tournament of Champions, the Iron Man World Championships, and the Junior Olympics.

 

This year, Tennessee AAU is looking to put together a team similar to the one you are desrcibing. There are three events, for middle school and high school age wrestlers, that we are planning on sending teams to. They are: the Iron Man in Knoxville; the Disney Duals in Orlando, FL; and the Junior Olympics in Detroit. MI. We are also planning on sending some to the Ohio Tournament of Champions.
