Cleveland Football

Recommended Posts

I'm a football alumni for Cleveland High Football for almost 30 years. While I have always supported the program, my excitement is at an all time level entering this season.

The new coach, Ron Crawford has created a new buzz and hype. He has hired several former players and coaches from the glory days to join his staff.

Like I said, I have just heard great things. Anyone with real connections have any news for te preseason?

Lots to be excited about. Team will have a new look in more ways than one this year. Big energy around the program, and the future is very bright.

Team is young, but lots of rising underclassmen saw action last year, so there's not quite as much a lack of experience as one would think. New staff is good, positive, and knowledgeable. Lots of input from the past (coach Monroe, Coach Green) as well. The end product will be obvious on Friday nights.

I don't know about Coach Greene...he is the head coach at rival Rhea Co

As for Coach Monroe, a player told me that he has been hanging around the field house thru spring and summer workouts.

While I love Coach Monroe and am glad that he's hanging around, Cleveland Blue Raider football fans need to be excited about Coach Crawford.

just look at Brentwood's football record for his 10 year tenure...playoffs, quarterfinals, semifinals, and 1 state championship (done playing in the toughest part of the state)

Coach Crawford is the right hire... FINALLY! B)

Ima former player. And never lost a game during my CHS years. As a alum I'm very excited for the future of Cleveland football. Crawford is a great coach that will have talent every year unlike what he had at brentwood. The future looks bright.

My son played for Coach Crawford on the 2002 Championship team at Brentwood and I know him very well. He has been a great influence on many young lives in Middle Tennessee and is a great man. If you like great defense you are going to love him. You are lucky to have him and Diane in your community.

sorry, I was referring to former HC Leon Brown. Just got my color chart confused...

Agreed about coach Crawford, but it's also nice to know coach Monroe is wiling and able to contribute. He's a great football mind and a very good resource as coach Crawford gets to know the lay of the land in Cleveland.

All-for-one, and all that...

well said Checkerboard...

along with Coach Brown, staff includes 2 former players from CHS who also were on Monroe's staff at Ooltewah.....??????....not sure if that is true or not????

if this info is correct...it would have to be Carson, Greene, Ingram, or Weir...those are former blu raiders who coached on Monroe's staff at Hooterville

It would have to be Ingram and Carson since Greene and Weir are at Rhea if that info is true. But yeah expectations are high at cleveland and rightfully so. Should be a good year for cleveland if they can get past a tough schedule.

    • Yep..could possibly have 3 teams ranked in top ten in the same four team district.
    • He had an opportunity to be the OC at TC without final say in the offensive gameplan. How does that work? Smh. Head Coaches are public figures regardless of the community size, and yes there are some out there, it’s irrelevant and not fair to them to name them on here. Also why is said “head coach” the head coach of the MS baseball program to begin with? Oh because no one wants it. As for the Lebanon question, I know what I’ve been told so just going off here say, some of the boosters were not happy with his roster decisions and wanted him out. Although he lead them to 20+ wins in multiple seasons
    • A head coach in the school system? No I dont think so. Head coaches are public figures in small communities. Not trying to slander, but this is an actual question. Do you know why he was forced to resign at Lebanon? This was his second chance.  He already left trousdale once and had an opportunity to come back a couple of years ago but spoiled that.
    • Are you perfect? Nope no one is, at the end of the day there are several teachers/coaches and even some in the Trousdale County school system that have DUI’s on their record. You’re correct on it being a bad mistake and it unfortunately could have ended horribly. While you consider the consequences minimal, I can assure you they are not. Ultimately I hope and have faith that he will learn from it and use it to better himself.
