clarification of new headlock rule

it has NOT been ruled illegal. It simply has been made into a STRONG point of emphasis. They are looking for anything that cuts off circulation in the jugular vein, pressure that is not across the throat but still cuts off bleeding, lifing the front headlock upwards and bringing the opponent onto his toes which cuts off breathing, and smothering the opponent with the lock. The refs were instructed on attaining better position to recognize when these things may occur.

The gator roll you were asking about was applied on the video with an illegal chin wrench. That is what made that particular situation illegal.

Remember that the rules have not changed in regards to the headlock. The refs will simply be taking a closer look as to whether the lock used or position of the hands and arms causes an illegal situation with regards to pressure.
