From a poster Vol74 on VN: jalen hurd... Shoulder is injured. Not that bad, but enough to question the stability of the area and if he will continue this year since Jalen likes to hit pretty dang hard. They are going to the doctor tomorrow, and I have been told they plan on giving a full report to everyone.

IMO I think he addresses it now and worries about being 100% for Spring ball at UT.

he has nothin else to prove in high school.....he has a hater target on his back...so not worth it IMO...time to move on..

Hard to tell a kid that he needs to think about his future when they are in high school. I hope he gets healthy before he returns, but I do not think people should tell him to just sit out the whole year because he has a bright future. No, he doesnt have anything to prove, but think of how much he would regret at least not trying to play his senior year of h.s. throughout his life. These are kids, so let them be kids.

I concur....Ooltewah had a Tennessee commit also back in 09' and he played it "safe" especially after a hamstring issue......we all knew what kind of explosive d-end he was.....and fans felt he was sand bagging his way thru the season waiting to enroll in Jan. only to find out that the man who recruited him was being fired.......I personally think he would have did better at LSU IMO.....

From Jalen's mom on TOS.....

"Good morning, everyone.

There is a lot of speculation about Jalen's condition, so I wanted to let everyone know what is going on and what we've decided to do about this situation.

On his 3rd or 4th carry of the game Sunday, he fell in an awkward position with his arm stretched out over his head. As he hit the ground, another young man fell on top of him while he was in that position. I know that most people didn't even realize he was hurt (heck, I didn't) because he plays with such intensity, but he did hurt his shoulder due to the fall. He has a minor labrum tear in his right shoulder. This is not the same area that was repaired last time; that area is still very much intact.

The risk of him playing injured and causing further damage to that shoulder or the risk of him potentially hurting himself somewhere else because he would be playing injured is not something that we feel would be beneficial in any way to Jalen's future. So we have decided to go ahead and get this area repaired and also have this area stabilized to prevent future dislocations. He will have this surgery very soon so that he will have adequate recovery time and so that he will be completely healed when he enrolls at UT in January.

This is obviously very disappointing to him, his team, etc, but he has had an extremely successful high school career and his main concern now is to being healthy for his Vols.

Thanks to everyone for your concern and support!"

Wishing him a safe and healthy recovery ....

Think it was a very wise move to get it done now and risk more

Now, luckily for BHS they have Carter bit does he have the will and power to carry Beech in his back like JH did to a state title?

I know I peeped at vol board and lots of them have concern bout his shoulder , getting hurt etc

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
