Baylor Girls Claim D-II AA State Crown

MANCHESTER - Baylor senior Blakesly Warren played like the champion she is  - 4-under 140 (70-70) -  as she led the Red Raiders to the D-II AA state golf championship here today at WillowBrook Golf Club. 

 

Teammate Katherine Holmes (So.) shot 8-over 152 (75-77) to give Baylor a winning total of 292, the lowest team score among D-II schools since a 285 by Baylor in 2008.

 

Middle/East Region champ Ensworth placed second with a 303 as 2012 champion Alexandra

Farnsworth shot 2-over 146, while Lindsey Miller shot 13-over 157.

 

"Katherine peeked at the right time and answered the bell this week," said Baylor coach Gary Partrick.

 

"Blakesly is phenominal and such a competitor. It's hard to believe her Baylor career his over."

 

And an impressive career it has been.

 

Two team titles (2011, 2013) and back-to-back individual state medalist honors, including a 4-under 140 this year, which is the second lowest two-day total in state history

 

Baylor alums Sofia Hoglund (2008) and Brooke Pancake (2006) share the state record at 138.

 

The Red Raiders have now a state record 18 state championships, including the last two.

Ensworth ended Baylor's 16-year reign in 2011.
