This thread is for Class AA Boys: The ballots have been sent to me and other voters. Please give us your suggestions. Negative comments are not affective in this thread and are not welcome!! We want to know who to consider, not who not to consider.

--------------------------------------------------

The Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards will be presented to the top girls and boys in five classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association at the state basketball championships in March.

This group is to include three finalists for Miss Basketball and three for Mr. Basketball in each classification. The winners of the coveted award are to receive the distinguished Mr. and Miss Basketball trophy with the other finalists being presented plaques.

The awards will be presented for each classification prior to the championship game awards presentation for each class, respectively.  The presentation of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards for Division II will be given on Saturday, March 1 at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville.

The presentation of the Miss Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 8 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

The presentation of the Mr. Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 15 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

Any player at any of our member schools is eligible to receive votes, and I would encourage you to take a moment and give careful consideration to any player with whom you are familiar and who you think deserving of the Mr. or Miss Basketball Award.

These votes are a nominating process only.  A selection committee that will include representatives from each area of the state will meet to vote on the finalists and winner of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Award for each classification.  You may submit the names of up to three players in each classification for the awards. It is not necessary to vote for three players in each category, but that is your option. And, please, consider the statewide aspect of this voting process.

In considering Mr. Basketball, would it be for what the team would be without him, or is it just overall skills

Absolutely - so I say Braxton Bonds, CPA. Senior starting point guard and best defensive player for 3 seasons on a team that is built on defense. 8 to 1 assist to turnover ratio - unheard of. Has been a key player on 2 state championship teams and likely a 3rd. If they win the state, he will be (along with Allsmiller) one of the few (maybe the only) players in TSSAA history to start on three  straight state championships teams. And if my memory is correct, he has never missed a game.

How good would they be wiyh out him

You have to have seen CPA play some to really understand how he is the key to the team. He was overshadowed in 2002 by Bradshaw and rightfully so because Bradshaw was great. But Bonds was still the QB.  Last year Lindsay and this year Blackwell would not be the players they were or are without Bonds. He creates so many easy basket opportunities and is a phenomenal passer. CPA wins with defense and a point guard that, frankly, doesn't make many mistakes - he causes the other team to make them. You have to see them play some to really understand. The college scouts recognize it and that is why he is going to play at the next level.

Zeke Clark (point guard) from Elizabethton High School

In 22 games he has played 652 minutes and averages the following:

21 pts, 4.7 asst, 3.6 rebs and 2.4 stls  and his field goal percentage is a whopping 50%. That is unheard of for most guards.

He has is definitely one of the best point guards in Northeast TN and maybe the state.

He also has a 3.8 GPA and scored a 28 on the ACT.

Jaylen Barford - South side

Braxton Bonds - CPA

Braxton Blackwell - CPA

As a CPA fan and having seen a lot of their games, there is no doubt Blackwell is a great talent; however, as a sophomore, I would not be in favor of him being a Mr. Basketball finalist or winner. There are too many deserving seniors and Blackwell will have his time. I know Mr. Basketball is based on the current season, but I think the career body of work should also be considered and how the player has elevated his team throughout a career.

    • QUICK UPDATE -  First, I see a lot of wrestling names that I recognize on that GoFundMe.  THANK YOU so much for helping this family.   After the long surgery on Sunday morning to repair his neck, Jacob suffered a collapsed lung.  Sometimes this happens after long surgeries.  They had to put him on a ventilator to get his breathing back on track.  He came off the vent on Monday morning and they put a BIPAP on him to help control his breathing.  As of today, Thursday, the BIPAP came off and he is breathing well on his own.  He is working towards drinking a glass of water and hopefully eating some solid food at some point in the near future. Jacob can "feel" when someone touches his legs, but there is still no movement.  His parents are beginning to prepare for him to be moved to the Shepherd Center in the next few days.  He will be there in Atlanta for 30-45 days.  Im sure he will receive excellent treatment. Please continue to pray for healing for him and if you are so moved, please contribute to the gofundme link above to help in any way you can.  The go fund me is doing well, but this is going to be a very long road for these guys Im afraid.. Thanks again! Sells
