State Brackets are out

Reft was mocking Region 4, if my eyes aren't deceiving me, it looks like in every 1A-AA bracket a wrestler can win 1 match and be a state medalist. Who came up with this wonderful idea? If you can sit there and basically say qualifying for state out of Region 4 is a joke, what's your opinion of the A-AA state tournament. I'd like to know how it measures up to your level of standards, be honest.

It easy to be negative with all the TSSAA changes, but here are a couple of facts (numbers to ponder)-

-this weekend the total number of qualifying wrestlers to the State- 746 (620 public, 448 AAA vs 172 A-AA & 126 private)

-in 1993 the total was 384 period

-with D-2 regions now, privates lost 98 wrestlers from last year (7 spots/wt), while publics picked up 172 (new A-AA)

-no respect of returning place winners in D-2 was given (Elisha Oliver seeded 2nd-2x state champ and Fargo champ, arguably the state's best wrestler)

D-II wrestlers are not seeded    top guy in west  goes to the bottom half of the bracket

Brackets are a complete joke again this year.

I've got a great idea to help the T$$AA make some more cash. How about a live stream of this 'random blind draw'. I'm sure a lot of people would pay to see the process live.

Too many uneven lop-sided brackets again this year.

126 Wilkins and Debien second round . Providing they both win their first round.  Really, Yall were right no rhyme or reason. 2 losses in state all year beat ranked wrestlers. Lost to Dickenson 2 times. The number 2 ranked wrestler and get thrown to Debien that quick. I guess itll be the hard way to get a medal at all.

I agree, and Debien made Dickenson look pretty bad a couple weeks ago

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
