Catholic pulls away in the second half to win 66-53. Alcoa is athletic and quick, young too.

Can't lie, Alcoa looked lost tonight. Catholic has matured since last year too. Shot selection was questionable at times, but it is what it is. We didn't have as many turnovers tonight, but we still had them.

We still have some growing to do, and our schedule doesnt get any easier. We go to Webb Tuesday and host CAKe next Friday.

I knew this would be a rebuilding year for Alcoa but I thought they would be .500 or slightly above at this point, not 4-11. I can tell by reading Coach Kirk's comments in the Daily Times recently that he is frustrated with the team's performance. It won't get any easier with Webb and CAK coming up next. He has been visibly frustrated on the sidelines as well, and the team's body language has been bad as well. But yes, there are about 2-4 games in there we could have (SHOULD have) won.

When the Irish execute and play team ball, they are very tough. Luke Smith had a great game tonight with solid support from several others. Teeter is a tough matchup in the post. Nice district win. Enjoyed getting to spend some time with AlcoaBasketball.

Luke Smith makes a HUGE difference for the Irish even if he isn't scoring, seeing how many assists he had tonight alone. His play tonight (led all scoring with 25 points) helped set up a big night for Jordan Anderson (18 points).

Honestly, this feels like a little role reversal from last season. Last year, KCHS was a very young team and it showed, especially after Luke was injured. This year, the Irish have matured while Alcoa has just one starter back from last year (Teeter), and our youth has been exposed throughout the season. I guess it all just goes in cycles.

IrishBBall, you da man! You've supported your team through thick and thin, and the same can be said for QSouth89.

Coach Kirk has to be patient, last year was hard on Coach Hutchens because he knew Catholic would be so young and they played a brutal schedule (not a good combo). Alcoa plays a very tough schedule as well so it's going to pay off especially at playoff time. Alcoa is one of the more athletic teams Catholic has played.

    • I assume with the hiring situation they are in, and pretty much everyone is in for that matter, he will call the defense. I think he brought someone in to do the offense. I have heard that it is a Skelton crew over there at the moment. It's just so difficult to hire coaches for anyone really. I hope he can get some guys in there.

    • Finally he has returned. Maybe he can tell us if it was one of the new players Keith brought in
    • I heard it was a Loudon County school. I don't think LC will be hurting. They are about to build an indoor facility that will put Clinton's to shame
    • the news story said that the contract between the operator of the school and the school board was expiring and was not going to be renewed.  The news story also reported that the students would be going to Trezevant as that is the closest Shelby county school.
