Cookeville (6-0) @ Rhea County (5-0)

WOW....this was a tale of 2 halves and one incredible play that ultimately decided the final score. Rhea came out played solid defense and ran the ball right down Cookeville's throat and pretty much dominated the first half to lead 21-3 at the half. Things didn't look good for Cookville at the half But the Cavs made some great adjustments, took advantage of excellent field position and pretty much kicked Rhea's teeth in the whole third and most of the 4th quarter but the Eagles made the big play when they had too in order to get the win.

Jake York's amazing TD catch and run will go down as one of the greatest plays in Rhea County football history. Very good game and I would pay to watch these two play again next week if possible. I believe both teams will be better after playing this game.

On another note, if they go through with that Super 32 plan this will end our district alliance. I sure hope we can continue this series somehow. Great facilities & atmosphere by the way. The Field Turf was nice hope we can do that at some point.

My apologies for the audio problems with Coach Pemberton's interview last night.   Here is a link to the podcast if anyone cares to hear it.   As I said, we had the volume levels all jacked up for the first interview, but it got much better in the second segment.

Well we used to be rivals! But I guess we're not anymore because we're too big. And yes I know why we play in the 6A playoffs & y'all play in the "5A" playoffs. But if it was all about saving gas then Monterey, Upperman, LA, Jackson County etc would be in the district too and we wouldn't be travelling to Rhea County for a district game. We're in the same district yes due to geography but also because our numbers are close enough that we should be competitive. 

But you say it's not fair, even though you won last year? Rhea County has 200 more students than you but they don't have a problem with it.

Dude we ain't got 2900 students! Go to TSSAA.org it shows student enrollment largest to smallest. We're in the same district for a reason. Not just cause we're neighbors. When I played you guys were competitive against us. We were about as much bigger than you then. You're competitive against Ckvl in every other sport. So why gripe about enrollment numbers when it comes to football now?

The size of a school is a bit overrated in my opinion. Maryville is a small 6A school and they dominate. Alcoa is 3A and can compete with pretty much any school. Jeff County is one of the biggest schools in the state and they're horrid. It's all about coaching and winning tradition for the most part. The schools with the better coaching and winning tradition, which breeds winning and the expectation of winning into the kids means a whole lot more than the size of a school. Just my 2 cents. No knock on Cookeville, but they have never really been known as a school with a winning tradition. Yeah, some good teams over the years, but they have always lacked in the coaching and tradition dept to maximize the talent of those numbers they have.

Why doesn't White Co ever want to play Gallatin at 1300+ kids? I know they have been asked but always refuse. C'mon Sparta.
