Coaching Carousal Begins

K2ruth, I am not positive but I am pretty sure Kara was the head coach for Farragut jv and from community chatter she was fairly well received for her contributions. I also think the Hames like her, I think she played for both of them along with coach Foster. I think new blood is a good thing as long as the training and background are there. Anyone have more info on Kara's background????

No problem, I didn't consider it rude, just fishing for some info as to the upcoming season, trying to figure out the local politics, sounds like K2 believes that the only acceptable coaching in town is at K2, dont have alot of information about Kva. One would think as big as knoxville is there would be quality coaches at both places.

Hard Angle, I think A LOT of people care what the Hames think. First, Coach Hames was with Catholic so she is one of their own. Second, she is considered by almost everyone, including the people on this board, to be the best coach ever in Knoxville. Third, K2, which they run, is responsible for the development of Knoxville volleyball, so yes, people care.

Hard Angle, did you have a bad K2 experience? Also, you seem to not think anybody is a good enough coach for Catholic. Who do you want?

K2R, yes I think that Cara's downside, is like I mentioned earlier and that is lack of experience.  She is young and full of enthusiasm, so that is in her favor.  Plus she knows the game.  She has played for some good coaches in high school (Coach Moore was a great one), and some good coaches in club/college.  I agree it is a big jump to a program like Catholic.  Just throwing ideas out there.  I do not know anything about Coach Pittman at CAK so I cannot say yea or nay.

As far as a Hames giving the ok for hiring at Catholic, I kinda lean toward Hardangle.  She is into K2 and her team at Webb, so she not even a player in the hiring process for KCHS.  She did coach at Catholic for one year, mostly as a part time JV coach.  It is my understanding that Coach Garland ran most of the JV practices as she only showed up part time.  Guess it was a team effort.

I agree that K2 has helped the level of volleyball in Knoxville, but I certainly would not agree that K2 is entirely responsible for the state of Knoxville volleyball.  I think that is a bit too much.  And to say she is the greatest volleyball coach of all time here is quite a head shaker.  I think her main supporter from what I hear on this board is K2R.  She is knowledgeable and dedicated, but I don't think she rates as the godly savior of volleyball here.  There have been many very good coaches here in Knoxville and they were here before she moved to the area.  Gotta give them some credit.  Guess we could start a new thread on that one.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful and very safe Thanksgiving.  Turkey down everyone!

BB, there have been some good coaches in Knoxville but none with the success that have followed Coach Hames. I wasn't saying that she would be involved in the hiring process, just responding to Hard Angle who said no one cares what the Hames thought which was kind of a silly statement.

Any ideas on coaches yet?

K2, trust me on this. There is not 1 AD or principal who cares one bit about what the Hames think. Chris Hames has some great players and plays in a lower division of high school ball. There are only a few good teams in Webb division. She is a good coach but there are several good coaches in Knoxville. Remember, players make a coach look good. I know you love the Hames, but let's be real here. Volleyball in Knoxville does not revolve around the Hames.

Hard Angle, I promise you that every AD in Knoxville that is serious about finding a quality coach will first, check to see if Coach Hames is interested, and second, will get feedback on who is out there.

She is the gold standard of Knoxville coaches. No one else is close. You and several other posters are critical of everyone except her! Farragut, Bearden, Catholic, CAK, Anderson County, Oak Ridge would snap her up if she showed any interest in leaving Webb which she turned into a power. But she won't leave.

Also, no disrespect Hard Angle, but you and several other posters rarely comment on anything other than to say no that's not the case.

Name one high school coach better than Hames? There aren't any!

Wow, I am not sure Hard Angle but I think we may have hit a nerve. I agree with your comment about Webb's division. I kept up with the state tournament and they were never tested.I will agree that Chris is a very good coach and the girls seem to really like her.

As far as naming a hs coach that is better, it shouldn't be a contest it is and always should be about the girls, every coach and school has good years and bad ones and it always comes down to one thing and that is the players and if they will perform for the coach.

Just a side note I would like to apologize to Cara for misspelling her name.

I didn't mean to get testy and no nerve hit, I promise. Just pointing out that ADs would not be calling the Hames to get advice as k2 mentioned. Most ADs do not care about girls sports anyway and rely on a parent to find a coach or just post the position on TSSAA job openings. Everyone here has been critical of coaches but the Hames seem to be sacred cows, beyond any criticism. Not that I was criticizing, just trying to clarify a point. I could be critical of coaches on this site, including the Hames, but I choose not to do so.

Yes, I agree with you ktown. Many good coaches and there are many variables with coaching.

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
    • I have a sophomore that can do 177 (preferred) or 192. Sent you an email.
    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
