Waco and Batman, I haven't followed DB too much this year, but here lately have seen a lot of contempt on here for the coaching staff.  I know some people have been after Graham for a while, but it's starting to seem like people are really upset with some other parts of the staff.  Is this a new development or an old story that needs to be a new development?  Everything I've seen on here over the past couple of years is how talented these classes are coming up.  Is the coaching staff really THAT bad to squander a really good group of athletes?  Seriously, I'm just asking.  Not trying to troll or stir the pot.

BPP - I only "follow" DB every year because they are (now "were") in our conference (Big 7) and we had to play them every year.    So with that being said, I think the frustration of the DB fans is that they enjoy 10-0, 9-1 maybe sometimes 8-2 every year but then get bounced early in the playoffs.   The problem with the regular season is that DB plays a bunch of 5A cupcakes in the Tri-cities every year so of course they have a winning record, and that generates a lot of excitement like "this will finally be the year...".   But then they go against 6A schools in the playoffs, well you get the point.     To be fair to the coaches, it's difficult to be winning locally 54-6 week in and week out, coasting along, excited, and then BOOM its playoff time, your starters have to play an entire game, they even have to play from behind and try to catch up, etc..   They only way to be the man is to beat the man, so this new conference alignment will probably be good for DB in the long run (of course there is the travel issue, but you can't have it both ways).       Waco and Batman are both great DB fans, they support their team but they aren't drinking the koolaid

Big, its all about some of the assistants ,especially Defensive"s*cks"! They used to play at DB and just like Waco would say "its a family" and no matter how things go especially bad things "its still a pat on the back "!! For two years its been very questionable before each season , but for a year now we have been talking about the kids coming up next year"2015" and a few years after "2016-2017" and "how great they could be" ! There are more People now pushing for some things to be straightened up because of knowing what we have coming up "i heard this more at games than ever this year "!! Now graham has showed signs of bad a** graham this year but he showed signs of "Questionable graham" but i Think it leads to the assistants getting their jobs done and their simply not getting it done !! Its frustrating for all DB fans because nothing is ever done about the coaching staff to improve them ! Someone had mentioned send them to clinics etc. . Heck at least Try/show their doing something to fix the issues , that all we want !!

Ok then.  Thanks for the response.  Seems like more of the same type of thing then, and when you have the resources like DB, it's hard not to have that pressure on you.  Coaches at big time programs know that they get the pressure with the perks, or they better know that.  From an outsider, DB has it going on;  Great facilities, Winning tradition, etc.  It does suck to have to continually run into Maryville at the end of the road regardless of how well you perform in the playoffs though.  The frustrating thing when looking at DB is how they can be so impressive and play with a team like Ooltewah and beat Sevier County, yet turn around and play a close game with a very subpar Morristown East team.  It's gotta drive people crazy.  At some point, somebody in the east besides Alcoa has got to give Maryville all they can handle though.  I don't see why DB can't be that school now.  I miss those knock down drag out years between Morristown West and Maryville about 10 years back.

A story on the front page of the Kingsport Times News tomorrow pretty much tells the story of the way things are run at Dobyns Bennett. They can't figure out how to turn off the stadium lights. Been burning 24/7. That pretty much sums it up.

Now come on, that can't be true....   (goes to google)....   What the ?!?!?      Waco is 100% right!!!   unbelievable

I've been wondering what was going on with that. Never thought it was that bad, just figured they turned off very late at night because a timer was not set correctly.

I read where they are thinking of hiring someone to tell them how to save money, which is kind of strange itself. Then someone complains the stadium lights are left on and the mayor says, "no one knows how to turn them off."

You can't make this stuff up.

    • As I said somewhere earlier in the thread, the original plans had no outdoor athletic facilities being part of the campus.  The original plan was for HVA to use facilities at nearby schools.  Very late in the process they came up with a plan and found budget to have minimal facilities and crammed them in to space that never was intended for athletic facilities.
    • Agreed, the way the field is turned you get the evening sun blasting right into the press box making filming a nightmare there, plus its so low.  The field is land locked and parking is a nightmare too. Seems like Knox County could have done a lot better there with the design and the quality.
    • I think this upcoming team may be pretty good, they will definately be better up front and if they can replace Dozier, Heyward and Rembert, they can be real good. They have the same strange schedule, but this time with 5 straight home games. The road games at Jeff County, Powell will be tough to open up with and the back side at Bearden is the tough game there.  One question I had if anyone knows: There has been some talk of an indoor practice facility in the past, with the new track area now more of a track area, that kind of leaves a need for a football practice area. Just sayin....
    • I find it hard to believe that 70% of a schools enrollment is zoned for another school district
    • I was told that the indoor facility is happening regardless of the vote on the taxes but it would be a much bigger project with more funds if they vote goes through
