bigb31072
Here's a spot for all of you that keep getting on the threads of those teams that are still playing. Spread your hate on here, and let the fans of those teams still practicing on Thanksgiving day talk about the games on their threads. Right on bigb...I entered this thread to suggest just that...and to say that I intend to start an "open zone vs. closed zone" thread...after football. RudyWasOffsides
The open zone is killing PUBLIC high school football just as bad private schools Edited November 23, 2014 by RudyWasOffsides
TheAmbassador
Marion County has an open zone, but I can say without hesitation that you really only see a few kids jumping between Marion, SP and Whitwell. Now, the bus routes only run in their designated areas so if a kid lives in one of these towns and wants to go to the other school they have to provide their own transportation. The real advantages lie with schools like Signal Mountain where they actually bus kids from other zones in Hamilton County up to Signal. This is a huge advantage and something smaller open zoned counties such as Marion doesn't have.
BigDave1967
I'm starting to think the Privates will never be separated from the Publics
pujo
The open zone is killing PUBLIC high school football just as bad private schools Both are very unfair, look no farther than the UC and NC game.both would win 2a and either would beat 95 percent of the teams in 3a. Both these teams draw their water out of a deeper well. Nothing 1aish about either team.

ReitzFan
Attention Moderator, Do we really need another "Separate the public and privates" thread? Same old stuff over and over. Besides, this thread should be on the public v private board anyway.
TheAmbassador
Marion may load up with SP kids, people flock to winners. You are right. It has happened before. Whatever happens the parents must be willing to get them transportation. I would guess that 98% of the kids at all three schools live in that school's communities, but the other 2% might hop around. tradertwo
Let me ask you all a question...Marion would be a good system for my hypothetical scenario...what if, say... South Pitt wasn't meeting the requirements set by the governor for GPA and graduation rates...I wont get into the mechanic's of the laws involved, but Marion County (as a whole) is required to provide ALL children an education meeting the aforementioned standards...if the parents of a child at SP request a transfer to a school currently meeting standards, it is not only allowed, it's mandatory (even including transportation). Now back to the question...how is that handled in a closed zone system? Yes, it has happened (in an OZ), and no, there's not a catch...just wondering. Once the kid starts high school, he or she must sit out a year if they transfer and there isn't a bonafide actual change of address.
