ScottRoss5
I have not heard that, but I would expect him to be courting courting the people that are considering building a facility pretty hard. I am surprised this isn't being talked about more on here. There is a group, including a volleyball person, planning to build a multi million dollar sports complex in knoxville. It would be perfect to host a club and three or four AAU basketball teams. They have the money, and are looking at locations. I don't think they would contract with either K2 or KVA. They are dipping their toe into the club water to get a feel. They have the financial resources to bring in out of town people to develop the club. Their plan is to build the facility then create a type flight club program and help grow the basketball. They are well connected in both communities. I think they would stay away from the existing clubs because of what you read on here. They want a well run club without the drama, and want to deliver a higher caliber product then what is available. My two cents is that it will happen. Probably in 2-3 years. They are going about it the right way. No agenda other than these are savy business people, one of which is well connected to volleyball and another to basketball. They know that to make money it has to be well staffed, parent and athlete friendly, and they need to own their own facility instead of renting. The timing of opening the connector from I-75 to west knoxville is key. They are seeing how club works this year, quietly, and will start interviewing during next season with a summer 2016 target date. They will be patient, and won't have to make money the first few years. They are talking to the major clubs figuring out how to grow an East TN club. It's pretty exciting. bigbluevolley
That sounds REALLY great for the girls!! I hope you aren't just blowing smoke. Are these people from Knoxville or out of town? My daughter will be graduating this year and would love to coach when she comes back into town. She played at PR but does not want to coach there. She also doesn't want to coach at the other two clubs because she has heard some bad things about both. I am going to tell her about this movement. She will be excited so you better not be BSing us. bigbluevolley
Why would we be talking about it if we don't have any information on it? Is the group in with the Tn travelers AAU team?
clubonlyforus
I know that when K2 was being dreamed up, a few people talked about making the facility available for basketball also, but most wanted a volleyball specific facility. It makes it much harder to do financially, but you don't have to compete with basketball for gym space. Chris and J had consulted with other clubs to get their feedback and chose to go volleyball only. Of course they started letting Karate and baseball practice for extra revenue and that took up courts for the volleyball players. So they sometimes had 2 teams on the same court because of non-volleyball people on the volleyball courts.
PhillyAl
clubonly. you have talked about people mentioning names on here and how bad that is, yet you continue to state the names of J and Chris in your last 3 post. I don't understand. You either think it's ok to mention names or not ok. Which is it. Also. You think that the only team at K2 that's any good is the upcoming 16's?? You need to do some more homework. The club is full of great teams. My daughters team isn't even the best team in the club. The 12's and 13's are probably the best. So the system does work for those who are willing to let coaches do their thing. The system is NOT for everyone. That I agree on. KVA is a great club for the people that don't like the K2 system. That is also good for K2. You always want Only the people that buy into your system to be a part of it. If you don't then those that don't buy in will be "bad apples" and always try to be negative. KVA and K2 are good for each other. They give the girls in Knoxville a choice. Choice is always good. clubonlyforus
When I mention names, I make sure it is not in a disrespectful way. Believe me, I have wanted to unleash, but I wont put those thoughts in writing. The way YOU have talked about Dave is totally disrespectful. It is apparent to me and others that never post, that you don't know the man. I had no intentions of posting anymore on this site, but I had had enough. Take it anyway you want. That's all I'm going to say about that. The younger teams usually always do good because the competition is not as good. The older they get, the tougher it gets. K2 15s did real good. Lets see if they can keep it up. Merry Christmas to ALL!!
bigbluevolley
ScottRoss5..Let me start by saying, I've been around volleyball for a while in this area. My wife and I were part of the PR/Karn's class that dominated for a while. I've watched SMJVC grow and now K2 and KVA. So although I don't know the directors of either of the new clubs, I know many parents that belong to them. I also know the volleyball community here. A sports complex to house everyone and everything would be great for parents (logistically). Having everything on one campus would be nice. Coming on here telling all of us to basically "be ready, its coming and all others will be shut down" is pretty lame. Let's "hypothetically" say that some business men in Tn are looking to bring in a sports complex here. Let's also "hypothetically" say these people used to be involved with gymnastics and then sold and then went on to make billions. Now these people want to bring in this complex. Remember ScottRoss5, this is all "hypothetical". Any good business person would talk to the people in person (not on some message board) and get the real feel for whats going on Volleyball/basketball wise in this area. Talking to the directors of each of the major volleyball clubs would prove good business sense. No the WBBL guy shouldn't be "courting" (as you said) them. They should be courting him. He has the LARGEST rec basketball league in the county. When you come on here and start talking about how this thing is coming in and shutting people down, it tends to offend most people. If you would like to expound on the details that would be a fun discussion. If we are waiting on the 640 highway lmao. We may be waiting for a long time. So with that being said we would love to hear the details if you want to share. If not then that's fine too. IrishBBall
We just got back from playing in a basketball tournament at the new Rocky Top Sports Complex that opened adjacent to Gatlinburg-Pittman. It was a great venue with 6 nice basketball courts that convert to 18 volleyball courts. There are 6 full size turf fields outside that convert to 13 soccer fields. It would be great to have that type facility here but I know the tax base and hotel support make it much easier to pull of there. From a school that at times has to share one gym among 5 basketball teams and volleyball team in the fall, we would love to have access to a facility like that. Didn't they just open something similar in Pigeon Forge? Edited December 24, 2014 by IrishBBall
