Update on Bearden...2 applications in only.  One a young, enthusiastic club coach, the other a former coach at a very small college.  A little birdy did whisper in my ear that a certain private school coach would be willing to throw his name in and the person it is would be AWESOME for the program.

Zach Forgani. Another school goes K2. With Webb, Catholic and Bearden now in the fold the Knoxville volleyball market, and parents, have spoken. Philly, surely this wasn't the coach you were talking about. It will be interesting to see how Zach handles this. I like him, but I agree with HA, 1500 doesn't seem like much. This was not a big name hire? Zach, like Brent, could have used a little more seasoning, or mentoring under a more experienced coach. I realize that club parents are weighing in, but this one surprised me.

Zach is a nice guy, but not experienced enough. He's only been an assistant coach at k2 for level 2 teams. We had him, he is fun, but wants to be friends with the girls more than a coach. Hopefully that will change if he is put in a head coaching position. I wouldn't expect a big season from Bearden unfortunately.  Btw..Zach may be k2 but the assistant is KVA. A nice mix for all.

Sorry. Have a lot going on right now with travel volleyball and work. Here is the The Bearden story. There were 4 applications put in. There were a lot of others interested but too afraid to throw their name in the hat. They didn't like how the old coach left the team and thought it would be a tough job to bring back to good status. One person picked the coach. I think Zack will do a great job and the help of his assistant will be perfect. Dave had nothing what so ever to do with this pick. They didn't even ask his opinion.

ScottRoss...Post #67 asks you a question. You never responded. Why not? You brought up the idea and then when someone asks you about it you go silent. Kind of funny.

I have a question for all of you volleyball experts. I'm obviously a basketball guy but was curious to see your responses. I've noticed basketball numbers shrinking for the girls. We had to disband our JV program at Catholic because we only had 3 freshman tryout. It seems like there are a lot of good athletes playing volleyball, soccer, and cheering.

Does club volleyball totally preclude girls from playing basketball? I understand it for the elite type players but what about the kids getting limited playing time or playing on a "second" team. What per centage of these kids playing club are going on to play in college? If the offerings are mainly at the D2, D3 or NAIA level wouldn't these girls who are good athletes increase their opportunities by playing basketball also?

    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
    • Word is Jason Maxwell will be new AD - he is currently head baseball coach. Also heard Roc might be headed to Pope as an assistant coach.
    • you must not know how tssaa operates lol
    • I agree. A lot more people are starting to see what is really going on around here and how a certain few board members are abusing their power. Eyes are starting to open.
