Knox County schools State Tournament elimination rumors.

Good feedback all. I was unaware that GP and Scot had Played. So if Fulton is holding up the games do you think that it is fair the other teams should be able to move on? Union County, GP, CAK have played their quarter final and Kingston is waiting. Should Kingston move on due to a Fulton forfeit. I wonder who this affecting in the other classes A and AAA? Anybody know?

South Doyle is holding up AAA in Region 1. All others were played Monday like their game should have been. It is sad when a person who probably never played sports and doesn't understand the importance of the game in kids lives is affecting kids outside HIS jurisdiction. Can't these other schools say we are playing here is the time and if Fulton or Doyle don't show they forfeit?

Fulton is supposed to be hosting the Regional so their gym is closed as long as school is closed. You would hope The TSSAA would allow the region to move the games to a gym that was not affected by the weather. CAK is waiting on the winner of Fulton vs Kingston.

GP has a large enough facility to host all the games but not sure of the road conditions getting to that location. Kingston does as well. Not sure about UC. CAK is too small.

My hope is that all the games can resume and these girls will be allowed to play it out. With the weather they are predicting it doesn't lok too good.

For anyone to forfeit is undesirable, in my opinion. As I said above, I am in favor of Knox teams being given every reasonable opportunity to compete. When it comes time to cut the field, though, I just do not see how anyone could feel justified in eliminating teams that were prepared to play while keeping teams in the tournament that were not prepared to participate - even if it was due to decisions of their administrative staffs.

Should the players on these teams that have run miles of suicides, practice shooting thousands of freethrows and spent countless hours in the gym getting ready for the post season run be denied their opportunity at a gold ball because of weather? Something completely out of their control? I don't know so help me out on this, These other areas that are still playing, have they been closed all of these days that Knox county has in the past two weeks? Do those county school boards allow their gymnasiums to open for games on snow days?

This is not just a Knox county issue. I know that Gatlinburg Pitman is in the mountains in Sevier county and they have not played there quarter final game yet against Scott County High. Kingston which is a roane county school has not played their game against Fulton yet either so it must not just be a Knox County ruling.

CAK and Union County have both advanced in regional play. Is it fair to them because these other county schools are out due to weather and can't play? Should they be allowed to advance if the others have to forfeit?

The tournament is about the kids that have done all of the work so they should not be punished because of some untimely weather and policies set by the county school boards. This will be a tough ruling for the TSSAA to make if it comes down to it.

Gatlinburg-Pittman beat Scott 95-66 according to the scoreboard and newspaper article on Mountain Press website and the Knox News Sentinel.

I get your point, but your facts are not correct. GP defeated Scott and Kingston can't play Fulton because Fulton isn't allowed to compete. The same situation exists in region 1AAA where South Doyle's game at Science Hill has put the entire girls' region one day behind (all the other teams played their quarterfinal games on Monday).

 

I am all for allowing every opportunity for Knox County teams to be allowed to compete, but at some point there simply may not be enough time left to get all of the games played. If this happens, I don't think that teams that were ready to play should be penalized because Knox County's school board and administrators have decided that their athletes cannot compete.

 

Great post. I agree completely. Teams that are ready and willing to play should not be penalized because of Knox County. Should those athletes at Knox County? Absolutely not, but sometimes others are punished when administrators make poor decisions. 

 

This has also affected the Farragut district in Knoxville where the Blount County teams have been in a holding pattern waiting on the Knox superintendent. I guess that's region 2-AAA?

Wbir is reporting that the sectional game could possibly be postponed until Monday now to allow the Knox County schools time to get the Regional games in. Knox News reported last night that it could come down to the " school boards from the different counties getting together to select a #1 and #2 from the region to move on to sectional." Either way it won't be good.

 

Bw3- no problem. I did not see the scores. I had just heard that UC had beaten Alcoa.

Time is running out for this post season.  All Knox County needs to do is let another system host the game.  The parents could drive the players to that host site.  Any liability issue that they are worried about is averted.

Region 3AA is having the same issue due to Hamilton County school board's unwillingness to play when their schools are closed. The district 5AA teams have been trying to accommodate earlier game times to beat the weather, but district 6AA teams weren't allowed to play by their school board. Girls quarterfinals have been played, but boys quarterfinals last night were postponed, and Hamilton County postponed today's rescheduled boys quarterfinals as well as girls semifinals.

District 5AA's schools were closed practically all last week, and they completed an entire district tournament by being flexible. Hamilton County hasn't yet decided to be cooperative.

Games involving Knox Co. teams (both girls and boys) are being played this afternoon. Check the Coach T scoreboard page (http://www.coacht.com/tennessee/scoreboard/ ) for times. The only games I'm not yet seeing are a pair of girls contests: South Doyle at Science Hill, and William Blount at Halls.

Knox county stepped up to the plate today and allowed Fulton to play Kingston. Not sure with the weather coming in if they will get the semis in tomorrow or not but at least the stepped up.

Area boys teams still have plenty of time to get their games in. I'm sure getting referees from Upper East TN either A.) in for earlier-than-usual girls games or B.) out ahead of bad weather following boys games was challenging.

The questions I have:

- On the boys side of things, with the Bearden girls hosting Anderson Co. very early and with officials already on hand, why didn't Bearden and Central play their boys quarterfinal immediately after as was seemingly intended earlier in the day?

- On the girls side of things, why didn't the William Blount at Halls game happen? Were there no referees to be found? A team is likely to have to play 2 games in a day now as a result.
