White County Girls Coach Resigns Sparta

Recommended Posts

Just read - Bryan Haley from Sparta just resigned his position as Head Coach at White Co. High School.  He had been the head coach for 11 years.   This is very interesting and could be a real good job for someone.  White County has been known over the years for basketball.  Lot of talent there.  That county eats and breathes basketball.

Talked with Bruce this morning and asked him if he werre interested or would apply, and the answer was he is not applying and would not take it even if he was offered. He said he likes Moore County and they have been good to him there and he is planning on staying. With those Freshman I dont blame him.

I hear they have had a bunch of people applying.  Cannon Co is one, and some other names from surrounding counties, but those didn't want it to be know as of right now.

So it will be interesting.....

If what you heard is true, the Cannon Co coach would be an excellent choice. He has along basketball pedigree. His father a legendary east TN coach, his older sister AAU all American and tutored under Bill Worrell while at TTU.  He revived the Smith Co. program and has taken the Woodbury girls to the Boro two or three times out of a tough 8AA district. The White Co. people must understand that he puts the best players on the floor while teaching the game to bringing the younger kids along.

From what I have heard they have not had as many to apply unlike what has been posted on here. Dodgen is a good coach but he will not have the talent he has had the last few years at Cannon if he goes to White County. Whoever gets this job better make sure they can handle being criticized and scrutinized because it won't be a walk in the park!

    • Agree. The man literally sacrificed time, moments, memories you can't get back with his own family for every single athlete at that school. (and many others) To those that continue to be negative about him and continue to bring him up; He's been loyal, hardworking and just his entire coaching career. Ask anyone that actually has a leg to stand on in regard to Coach.
    • Egotistical? That's a new one.  It's funny, I'm friends with two of the younger coaches that he "ran off" as you say. In fact, he helped them find jobs, encouraged them to do what was best for their growing families, provided advice, support and still does to this day.

    • Track has always been big at OR. Ran off about 7 straight titles in the 60s. Your hate for Gaddis runs deep, huh? What did he ever do to you, to make you disdain him that much? You can’t seem to stop talking about the guy. He’s living rent free in your head. Might wanna get that checked out, you don’t wanna go to the grave with that on your heart.
    • This late in the year, you’d have to think they’d go with an Asst. on staff, right? I’m pretty new to the area so still learning how folks do things around here…if Woods stays there to teach, it could be hard on a new guy/staff coming in…
