Part of the fallout from the reclassification this past year is playing Rhea County. I am sure the Chargers would have much preferred to play a local team like Sequoyah, Tellico or Sweetwater. All of which would not schedule Central. So the Chargers ended up filling the schedule with Norte Dame and Rhea County.

There will be no easy days for the Chargers with playing one of the toughest schedules in 3A.

The upside is that finishing 3rd or 4th puts you in the playoffs. A tough schedule if you survive often makes you play-off tested even against teams with better records from other regions.

So true!  These boys will have to earn it for sure.

Off topic, but relating to McMinn Central. We ate in Athens last night so we decided to go by and watch the Chargers play the Cherokees in a JV game. We left at halftime with the Cherokee JV squad leading 28-0. I don't think Central even had a first down in the first half, yet it seemed McMinn Co. was having their way in everything they did.  It was very disappointing and concerns me for the future.  I thought our little league feeder programs had some good teams the last couple of years.  Does anyone know?

Looking at the lineup from last night I seen more upper classmen from McMinn playing in this game.  I am going to say this had a little to do with it.  I see the coaches also trying to find out best positioning with some of these kids.  I say this Central was using this game to work on reps with all kids.  McMinn had more older kids in this first half and when Central was driving at the end I know McMinn changed back to older kids to secure the shutout.  I am not saying McMinn didn't have Freshman and Soph. mixed in.

    • Tax payer dollars are paid for certified teachers to "teach" and then coach. The primary job is to teach.  There are some district that ay awesome supplements and others that don't. Dyersburg and Dyer County are pretty close if I remember correctly. I would imagine that Football and basketball are above $10,000 now.  I've heard that Milan is $20,000 for boys basketball. I would imagine that football is more than that in Milan.  Collierville has camps that coaches get paid extra for. 3 camps a year, 100 kids a camp, $30,000 right there.  There are places like Memphis-Shelby County schools where the supplements are garbage even for the head coaches. I made less than $3,000 as the head assistant at Germantown in 2015 when we were 26-4 and one of the best teams in the Southeast. As a head middle school coach next year I will make between $4-5,000 at a municipal in Shelby County.  Coaches should be compensated for the jobs that are required but lets keep in mind that they are educators first.  It's pretty frustrating to other teachers that work their tale off teaching 6-7 classes a day to watch someone roam campus, not teach (or have very minimal responsibilities), and get paid the same (more with supplements) as a person who has the some years of experience or sometimes less.
    • This will get coaches leaving the profession very quickly if this kid wins this case. This is absurd...
    • yeah money aint right there anymore
    • I suppose you are correct but from my understanding it was going to be a situation of the HC saying yay or nay to every play
