What is the best IFL game never played?

DB vs. Gate City (Virginia)  circa late 70's early 80's

 

Do any of you old-timers remember back in the 70's and early 80's about how much smack talk was going on about this game?       This was the most talked about game that was never played, for some reason the two schools just never scheduled each other.    Even the Kingsport Times stirred it up occasionally.    A lot of this was between Eastman employees who lived in both cities and I guess had kids in both schools (I had a friend at Eastman at the time who relayed this info....).   You would hear things like:

 

GATE CITY:   The mighty DB is afraid to step over the line, yeah that's right, afraid...

 

DB:  Kingsport residents, please remember to flush your toilets, Gate City needs the water...

 

At that time DB was stomping the stuffing out of all the other Tri-cities teams and Gate City had some pretty stout teams as well.

 

I submit to you that this is the greatest IFL game never played.

It would have to be back when murvil was playing 4A. The matchup would have been murvil against any of the big boys in 5A. No way they could have stayed on the field against the bigger elite teams in 5A. Lots of smack talk back in that day.

Good match up in this one. Especially the Soddy Daisy teams of the 90s. I just moved from Nashville to Flower Mound, TX. They still have a stout program.

89 Gallatin Green Wave vs 94 Riverdale Warriors. That would be a battle for sure.
