I saw that Father Ryan announced Brian Rector as their new head football coach today. As a Ryan graduate, I hope Coach Rector can bring a little pride back to the football program.  I am under no false illusions, the Irish are behind the eight ball when it comes to stockpiling football players and always will be.. But I do think the right person can come in, show some enthusiasm, create competition, and coach up some kids who are competing in the toughest division in the state. I wish Coach Rector the best.

This hiring was one of the worst kept secrets in coaching history. Why wait 2 months to name a coach. That had informal discussions within days of the opening? Rector is an outstanding coach and will do a great job. My concern is. Will the administration allow him to do his job? The administration has a proven record of not allowing good coaches the opportunity to do the job. what role does the Board play in Ryan's misfortune in athletics?

Was in the Boro for the girls tournament and heard that Rector wants to clean house. Guess he wants to get "His" people on the staff.

I'd say he's been successful. Word is he has gotten rid of most of the coaches and a lot of the players as well.

If your going to give someone a job and you want them to be successful you must not only give them a toolbox but it should be full of high quality tools.

Well, he lost to the school's rival (who just beat Baylor btw) for only the third time ever, and he's yet to notch a DII win... maybe DII is more difficult than he expected.

he has absolutely nothing to work with talent wise either.. give him time and the rescources necessary to win and he will win.. he has turned around every program he has went to

Whats the story here? This seemed like an odd move to me. Did FR step up big and pay? Does that mean they will put the $$ and resources necessary into the program to get kids in who can compete with the big boys? This is a 2 step process: 1) pay for the coach 2) allocate necessary resources to put tools in the box

    • QUICK UPDATE -  First, I see a lot of wrestling names that I recognize on that GoFundMe.  THANK YOU so much for helping this family.   After the long surgery on Sunday morning to repair his neck, Jacob suffered a collapsed lung.  Sometimes this happens after long surgeries.  They had to put him on a ventilator to get his breathing back on track.  He came off the vent on Monday morning and they put a BIPAP on him to help control his breathing.  As of today, Thursday, the BIPAP came off and he is breathing well on his own.  He is working towards drinking a glass of water and hopefully eating some solid food at some point in the near future. Jacob can "feel" when someone touches his legs, but there is still no movement.  His parents are beginning to prepare for him to be moved to the Shepherd Center in the next few days.  He will be there in Atlanta for 30-45 days.  Im sure he will receive excellent treatment. Please continue to pray for healing for him and if you are so moved, please contribute to the gofundme link above to help in any way you can.  The go fund me is doing well, but this is going to be a very long road for these guys Im afraid.. Thanks again! Sells
