bbb
May 4 - Baylor Netters Top GPS, 7-0 In the first Baylor-GPS tennis match, Baylor coach Dustin Kane was not happy with the execution of his players in singles even though the Red Raiders won 5 Wednesday at Baylor, the seventh year coach was much more pleased with the outcome as the hosts won all six singles matches in straight sets on the way to a 7-0 triumph against GPS. The Bruisers had taken two matches to three sets (Baylor won 7-0) in the first meeting three weeks ago. “We worked hard on singles the last couple of weeks, made some adjustments in our play and the outcome was good,†said Kane whose team improved to 12-0 and finished first in the D-II AA Middle/East Region. The best match of the day was at No.1 singles as defending D-IIAA state singles champion Drew Hawkins defeated long-time friend and rival Maddox Bandy, 6-3, 7-5. Hawkins and Bandy split matches as Bandy and Jenna Thorstenson, who are defending state doubles champs, defeated Hawkins-Lauren Carelli, 8-5 at No.1 doubles for the Bruisers only win. “We played well, but Baylor came out a little stronger at the start of each match and we have to do a better job of getting a fast start in the future,†said GPS coach Sue Bartlett.
