This will be the first year SHS will have marching band. What are some good pointers to give the students to keep them encouraged?

As a music teacher for several years, I have always given my students an end of the year reward for their hard work during the school year. I have always taken my students to a Music in the Parks event every year. These are music competitions hosted at theme parks around the country every year in the spring. I only take the students that earned it. Usually a criteria that consists of staying out of trouble, making good grades in all classes and being at all ensemble events. This motivates the students to be good role models in school and make good grades. As a teacher I feel it is my job to teach them more than music and this shows the students that with hard work comes a great reward. Just my two cents.
