I'm thinking it looks like Boca. I realize it's a great trip for the team but a tough one for fans. Would be nice to see us against an SEC team

Agreed. What SEC team would you want to see the U of M play? I think playing either TX A&M would be good, or possibly UT or Georgia.

I like all those, Vols or Vandy would be nice to have a chance to lay claims to the State.

Ark would be fun, what better time to take a shot at LSU?? I know none of those are in the mix but I am one of those that thinks on a good day we could be on the field with almost anybody right now.

I heard your coach on the radio the other day say he wasn't feeling the love from Norvell on recruiting. How many guys haven got with offers better than Memphis?

What yall think about what's going on in basketball?

I'm not surprised about the current situation. Tubby isn't the type of coach who handles high rated recruits well. He's old school and he's not wired that way. He is going to build his team with his type of players. The problem with that ... it's going to take time to do, which is something he's not going to get much of. However, Tom Bowen is his boss ... not the fans. If Tom can ride it out then Tubby will get a chance to build his type of team. Time will tell.

I talked to a walk-on's brother a few months back and asked how he liked the new staff and he was very positive but said then he expected Tubby to clean house and start fresh. Looks like he was right on

It appears. Like I'm not surprised. Let's see how this develops.

Tubby's on the move ... from the Commercial Appeal, June 26, 2017

Memphis starts 2019 recruiting push

On June 15, college coaches could officially make direct contact over the phone with 2019 recruits. At least eight announced Memphis offers on social media. Notable prospects included Oak Hill guard Josh Nickelberry, the cousin of incoming freshman David Nickelberry; West Point, Miss., point guard Austin Crowley; and forward Vernon Carey, who is considered one of the top recruits in the country out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Among local prospects, East big man Malcolm Dandridge said he spoke with Tigers Coach Tubby Smith, and Memphis also reached out to Jeffries, who plays alongside Dandridge on Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League with Team Penny.

By Wednesday, the Tigers had made contact with East forward Antavion “Dude” Collum. All three players had received offers from Memphis.
