Vandy98
Then the big 6A public schools could not hide from the D2AA schools and they would be forced to play each other. Crowds would be insane and gates would raise huge profit as well as great football. But public schools would probably boycott football or something crazy lol

That's ridiculous to say big 6A teams are hiding from the privates. It's different now. There's not a level playing field. Private schools recruit. Public schools cannot. Private schools cherry pick talent especially in metropolitan areas. Further school choice advocates will make it even worse. Public school dollars will be siphoned away if they pass vouchers, and privates will have even more of an advantage. Privates do not have to adhere to the same rules as publics academically or athletically.

Public school dollars will be siphoned away if they pass vouchers, and privates will have even more of an advantage. Privates do not have to adhere to the same rules as publics academically or athletically. I don't buy into the whole "publics run from privates" thing either. Honestly, publics have no incentive to play many of the privates, especially with how regions have been. Why would a 6A school want to play 7-8 tough region games each year then fill their remaining 2-3 games with another extremely tough team against a top private school? I get that we as fans would love it and it would make for great matchups, but the ultimate goal for teams is to win a state championship. 15 football games is a TON for a high school athlete to play in one season. Coaches have to make sure their players are put in position to be ready in December and, honestly, a couple "cupcake games" helps to accomplish that. As for the whole "publics can't recruit" thing, I don't know how it is statewide, but I do know that here in Memphis, public schools actively recruit athletes just as much or more as the private schools. It definitely happens at both levels.
Indian
This would have been a good year to lower Division I to five classes, with most of the private schools in it going to Division II. Plus Division II didn't need three classes. Seven total would have gone over much better. If there's ever movement by private schools to get back in, probably by legal means, they should look at 7 classes total. Divide them all equal without multiplier. Schools in metro counties go up one class regardless. Private schools in rural counties go up one class. Private schools in metro counties go up two classes. Your schools like Brentwood Academy would surely play in "7A."
BigEdMo
How many private schools were in the finals this year in D1? Since now TSSAA is adding another class to make it 9 champions.
devilsden
What about 3 public classes, just like basketball, baseball, etc. and then 1 class for privates? Other states do some similar to what Tenn. did the last 2 years. I looked it up and Ga. took the largest 45 schools and put them in a class, then took the smallest 80-90 schools and put them in a class but called it, something like class A large/public and class A small/private. I think the other classes were divided equally. Guess the public & privates plat together in all classes except A. I think their is also a private school league in Ga., all though not positive. Indian
I don't think you will ever see such a drop in football classes again, it's been 24 years since the move to five classes. I can see a drop to five from six if this doesn't work well with travel and matchups, and I think they will look harder at four classes in basketball, baseball and softball. It seemed to get overlooked with all the discussion on schools moving to Division II and the class shakesups after it.
devilsden
I might be wrong, but I believe ALL sports in Georgia are divided into the same classes as football. Can't remember off the top of my head but I think there are 8 classes, and I think they probably have 75 - 100 more schools that play football than we do. Indian
Cut it to 7 classes. Division I, rural and no private schools, since that has always seemed to be an argument (open zones, privates) Yes, some rural schools don't have hard zones but usually the distance for one school to another makes it harder. I cut it at 1,200 since anything above that would stretch the enrollment gap too much, plus the largest rural schools ought to have enough players in the school anyway. Division II, urban schools including private schools-I used, without looking things up, Memphis, Nashville, Clarksville, Chattanooga, Jackson, Knoxville, Kingsport-Johnson City, and their counties so things could be off a bit. 1.5 multiplier for private schools. One of the best things, each class would have about 48 teams. Easy way to do it with 8 regions in each. Yes, just a wild projection, but I bet this would work. I think at this point, we're too far into the public-private split to go back. I think something like this makes way too much sense for the TSSAA to actually consider. It would make for competitive regular season and playoff matchups that would be good for everyone.
Indian
There would have to be an examination of what qualifies a school as rural or urban. In my view all schools in an urban county like Hamilton should be urban even if on the edge. A few years ago they threw out an urban/rural split idea just for conversation purposes and too many metro schools were listed rural just because their physical location had low population density. And maybe a few blocks away in another zip code the population was more dense. My guess those most opposed to this would be the large urban publics. I would still like to see a vote of atheltic directors.
