This is huge game because the winner of this game will more than likely host Hampton and Meigs or Oneida would be favored in that game in my opinion, the loser of this game can compete with South Greene, but a win would be tough, I have seen Hampton and South Greene play this year. And I did post that Hampton would beat NV😀

Well crap.....it looks like my girls stood tall in the region finals.....so I get to keep giving shout outs to them on the keyboard.  What an outstanding game last night, two solid teams that carried themselves right into OT.  I think utilizing the press early was good for us as it began to tire Meigs some as the game went on and probably forced them out of their own press a little sooner than they wanted.  There were numerous big plays by players from both teams with our girls making just a few more in key moments.  Really a wild ride....and the two best teams ended up showing everyone how they got to the championship.  No question about the MVP of the region, I believe she made numerous big shots when the Lady Indians needed them most and the freshman post made two large plays late in this game (the key rebound off missed basket and the clean blocked shot on the next to last possession).  Love that we will host Saturday Night....that is a big deal.

Some game thoughts.....Oneida is a very disruptive defense.  Their intensity on that end created 27 turnovers from the state's #6 ranked team.  They probably had a high number too, but they were more disruptive in this game.

Plays of the game:

Dishman drive for two to tie it back up late.

Brooks charge giving #25 her fifth foul.

Boyatt block and late key rebound off missed basket by Meigs.

Bertram re-entering with four fouls and neutralizing Meigs effectiveness in post.

Dishman 3 pointer to answer Meigs go ahead 3.

Oneida guards defensive play in second quarter in the 2-3 zone.  They were in shooters face contesting every shot in that stretch dispite not having a true post in the paint (freshman)

Thomas steal for wide open lay-up in the fourth quarter.

All plays at key points in the ball game.

One more thing, about the three pointer at the buzzer.  That was exactly the correct call by the official.  Look up the rules.....any ball can not be caught and shot with under .5 of a second....it can only be tipped in that instance.  There was .2 on the clock which means only a tipped ball would have counted and I'm sure the refs were aware of that beforehand.

I don't know if that guy that got escorted out of the gym was mad at that call or something else, but they got that right.  It was a great game played with equal intensity by both teams.  Listen carefully Meigs Fans,,,,,we hope you travel up to there and win your game.  Once you play us we wish you nothing but the best going forward unless we meet again.  I remember two years ago when we had you all on the ropes and you all sent us home because you were the better team that night.  Last night my girls were the better group.

Great ballgame at Harryman last night by both teams.... I saw nothing but hustle from 2 teams eyeing the same prize. I wish nothing but good fortune and luck to Oneida as they earned the right to host and Meigs as they travel!

Dish came up big time and again for the Lady Indians on the offensive end.... Like Kaz ahead of me, there were numerous "untouted" heroes for the Lady Indians in the hustle and D category last night. Brooks took the huge charge and was on the court after loose balls too many times to count... Lowe took a couple forearms across the face yet maintained control of the ball.... Boyatt swatted and boarded sevl big time shots.... Thomas with her athletic ability kept Meigs at bay on both ends.... Bert did her thing in the paint to neutralize.... and the pesky 3 of Hutson, Wright, and Newport kept hounding away and tiring down Meigs throughout the night. It wouldnt be complete without mentioning Buttram contributing in her limited time as well. It was truly a TEAM effort from the heart.

Meigs came up big time and time again... sorry I don't remember names but 3, 23, and 25 deserve some props as 3 popped big shot after big shot, 25 manned the lane, and 23---well, that girl has game.

It was a 12 RD bout....with Oneida winning by the slimmest of margins.

Congrats and good luck ladies

True stuff......I know I didn't include everyone that contributed but make no mistake....the kids won this one with their defense and everyone that stepped on the floor was instrumental in making things difficult for Meigs.  The defensive movement in the zone I made reference too a couple of posts back.....was huge in places.  Not a criticism towards Meig's coach but when several of his key players got in foul trouble he might have been able to protect them some in a zone....then again they work very hard in man to man so....?  You know if you live by it, you die by it.  There is nothing wrong with staying committed to the man but they ended up losing very good players due to fouls before the game was over.  Anyways....just random thoughts.

    • This late in the year, you’d have to think they’d go with an Asst. on staff, right? I’m pretty new to the area so still learning how folks do things around here…if Woods stays there to teach, it could be hard on a new guy/staff coming in…
    • Well, your Big Western Hunt better turn up some Zebras to come graze on the Stones to make the jungle gametime ready again and make sure the plumber bros. still will come service the facilities at the Mecca. I hope your weekend is Fowl. Tell Rip hello from the Five Oh. Maybe the Gravedigger will catch a ride with Alphaniner on a flyover soon to BNA.
    • It’s not hearsay, just patently false. As one of those young coaches he apparently “ran off”, coach never once ridiculed or degraded anyone. Sure he challenged kids and coached them very hard,  but we have different definitions of you call that degrading. Coach Hammontree changed my life when he gave me the chance to work for him. I learned more about being a man and caring for the people around me in 4 years working for him than I did in 20 years of my life. No one sacrificed more than he did. I left Heritage because I felt there would never be the support necessary to help the program succeed. I’m tired of hearing people drag others down especially those they truly don’t know. Coach has moved on and a new coach is there. Just let the man live and root for the team.
    • Waiting on the Great One.   White Horse and Rip have a big weekend in the woods, and the Sheriff is working the overtime here.      Turkey season awaits…..Big Gobblers everywhere.
