Pickett County beat Van Buren  in the Substate when Van Buren did have Bouldin by a score of 95-65...AT VAN BUREN.

Yeah...I realize that. Seen it. However, Lakelyn was ill that night and fouled out in the third quarter. I am not saying the game was close as it was 20 when she fouled out and likely would have stayed there, but it wasn't like PC knew we would be able to waltz in there and roll.

Now, the same VB team beat Jackson County the very next year...So, my statement stands as I said before stands, the new substate matchup with Moore County's region will be much tougher than it has been for the UC teams (with the exception of the Bouldin led teams her last two years).

Moore County should win the whole thing. They may not lose looking at their schedule during the regular season. The upper Cumberland teams will be much better than the teams they will face during the year but they are better than Pickett, Clarkrange and JC this year. All seniors and the best team in southern middle Tn this year.

Kinda hard to say that MC is better than Pickett, Clarkrange, JC, and everyone else considering nobody's played a single game yet. I do expect MC to be very good though, along with several others.

Moore County will win their region but it will be a steal if they beat Jackson, Pickett or Clarkrange even with one of those 3 traveling to Moore County for the substate. 3 of the top 5 teams in Tennessee in Single A may be in the same district this year, and coaching will probably make the difference for those 3 as they leave their regions and move toward that state tournament. EXPERIENCE IS KEY!!! (both in being in that situation- which most all of the Pickett and clarkrange kids have been), AND in coaching, where all three of those schools have coaches that have been at the state tournament level for several years now.

I agree with that.

MC will be loaded up again this year...but they have been for the last couple of years as well. At this point, the only thing left to see is for them to get to the sub state. Honestly, I thought they were good enough two years ago to be at the State tournament and missed a great opportunity, and they were good enough a year ago to be in the substate (even with the injury)...was kinda surprised they didn't get there either year.

Moore County got rid of the best coach they had in Slatten. I think when it comes substate time that will show up. Just my two cents worth

If slatten was so great, why didn't he ever get anywhere further than substate?  He had some great players and the town has high expectations.   Just wondering,  how many appearances did he make with the girls in the tournament?  I can't recall.

To even question whether Bruce is an excellent coach or not shows how little some of the posters on here know. To narrow the body of work he compiled as a head coach into 2-3 games is a ridiculous argument. Evèry school he has been at but maybe 1 has gotten to at least the sectional. You have never had to coach against him, I have. You better bring your A+ game.

I know a lot of excellent coaches who never win a district or make the state, the reality check is that it is hard to make it to state no matter what the expectations or where you coach. He is one of the best at 3 key things: 1. player development, 2. Game prep. and 3. In game coaching. He doesnt always win every game, but he doesn't have many where he is out of it.

You are spot on about Slatten.  Great coach!  Funny how many people think getting 14-18 year old girls with numerous distractions fundamentally better and to play great WITH each other every night is easy.

    • hey goat! how’s monterey looking this year?!
    • several people actually. they said “snoball, do you know who railbird81 is on coacht?” I said, “never heard of her.” they said, “you ought to check it out they’re getting fired up on there like the old days.” well, you can imagine my disappointment when I came here expecting sharp, witty banter and all i found was more akin to toddlers slap fighting. and what looks like 1 guy/gal talking to themselves with multiple accounts.
    • Shopping? His family is loaded and he's 6'6 I'm pretty sure he could start anywhere in upper East TN,So no need to shop. Word is Witten got caught trying to work him out on campus and some 7 on 7 while playing athletics for Sullivan East. Word got around pretty quick and Someone turned them into TSSAA.
    • Quick update on Jacob -  Jacob celebrated his 16th birthday at Vanderbilt on Tuesday and has been in decent spirits.  His sense of humor has begun to show as he was visited by many friends.  He is swallowing a lot better now and has eaten some of his favorites (Chik-Fil-A and Five Guys).   He is getting prepared to head to Atlanta to the Shepherd Center first thing tomorrow morning.  His family has been waiting on insurance approval. In case you dont know the Shepherd Center it a world class facility and supposedly one of the best in the country for spinal injury rehab.  Praying for perfect results there. Considering the circumstances, Jacob is in decent spirits.  He has some reflexive movement in his legs which I think is probably a very positive sign.  Don't read too much into that just yet as there is no telling what the real prognosis is... just hopeful that is good thing.  I am really just happy that it seems like he has a punchers chance of getting something back.  He is a strong young man and very determined so I think he will fight as hard as he can in physical therapy while down in Atlanta. More than one of you has asked me about an address to send donations.  I know GoFundMe isn't for everyone.  If you want to go that route, you can make a check to "Blackman Wrestling Club" and we will pass anything received directly to the Kinderdines.   Jacob Kinderdine c/o Blackman Wrestling 4836 Trevino Court Murfreesboro, TN  37128 Also, want to thank everyone who has donated so far.  Jacobs dad will take a month off work and stay in Atlanta with him.  They need to learn how to take care of him and do home therapy work..... and surely Jacob will be glad his dad can be there.  All that could not happen without you all.  Depending on what happens, they will probably end up doing some home remodeling in order to accommodate Jacob at their home.  Thanks again. Here's a pic I lifted from Facebook of Jacob on Oxy talking to his Uncle.  LOL
