I can't remember his name, but I heard that the guy that retired from Germantown HS a couple of years ago was taking it over for a few years.  They said he was only 60 but could draw a pension and then coach private school.  I think GP West did that too.

No. The former coach you are talking about is Tony Bradley. He now lives in Arkansas, about 2 hours from Memphis. He is not coming back.

I heard that John Michael Simpson is the grandson of FRHS current head coach Pat Simpson.  JM will become the head coach in 2018 when Coach Pat becomes the Ryan AD at Ryan.

I haven't heard anything about Jonathan Simpson being in the mix. My money says he will be back at Arlington next season. Also, JM Simpson is Pat's nephew. His dad Frank is the coach at MBA.

Christian Brothers High School has hired Mr. Derek Harrison as its head wrestling coach. Coach Harrison comes to CBHS after serving as the head coach at Seymour High School in Seymour, TN since 2015. He has also served as assistant wrestling coach at King University in Bristol, Tennessee, his alma mater. Harrison wrestled at Cleveland High School, as well as at King University.

"With the outstanding tradition of our wrestling program and the opening of the Brothers Development Center, Coach Harrison steps into this role with resources and strategic pieces already in place.," said Mike Kelly, CBHS Athletic Director. "His work ethic, coupled with his history of developing outstanding wrestlers, will lead our program to a new level.â€

“My family and I are extremely excited about this opportunity at CBHS,†said Harrison, who will teach business classes at CBHS. “I would like to thank the CBHS administration and the hiring committee for giving me the opportunity to take over such a prestigious program. I will work diligently to develop well-rounded student-athletes and continue the successful wrestling tradition that has been built at CBHS. I look forward to a new challenge in such a great environment.â€

Coach Harrison received both his Bachelor’s (2009) and Master’s degree (2010) from King University. He has been active in development of youth wrestlers in Freeestyle and Greco-Roman. He and his wife Crista have two daughters, Caelyn, (4), and Cameryn (five months).

“We welcome Derek and his family to Memphis and the CBHS community. Derek is both an accomplished teacher and well-respected wrestling coach,†said Chris Fay, CBHS Principal. “His personal mission as a teacher and coach is a great match for CBHS and he is well-prepared to be our next head wrestling coach.â€

National Search?  Congratulations to Coach Harrison, but a national search and you select the coach at Seymour.  I am sure he will do a great job at the Bro's but don't try to sell me this was a National Search.

So what would you consider a national search? Oh wait, it's not because they hired someone within TN? WOW, maybe he was the BEST choice. I certainly think he is, and think they did a great job in their search. MAYBE you should have sat in the multiple meetings and interviews.

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
