It doesnt bug me at all.  Merely stating an opinion. Middle school kids, kids in general,  mature at vastly different rates and stages. With two very large middle schools combining,  a late bloomer will be discouraged from playing or be overlooked and under developed because of the huge pool of kids now available for 1 team . When the child does mature into a player that could help, maybe soph or jr in hs, he has lost interest. Its good for some egos to beat middle  schools with less kids to choose from, but its a short term boost that hurts overall development. Again, not a crackpot theory, just a humble opinion that it is backed by alot of practical experience working with young people and a ton of objective evidence.

Hammer , you nailed down right there Sir.

Being involved in a disastrous high school football program where coaches don't put the players best interest first or they are playing kids out of position or simply don't understand how to coach or playing kids that shouldn't even be playing or lack the organizational skills necessary to be successful or telling kids one thing and doing another is the real reason kids end up at different schools.  There are a lot of coaches that constantly put kids down and blame the kids without building them up.  You can coach hard without belittling the players.  There has to be a balance between the negative and positive when coaching.  The buddy coaching is a real thing at the high school level.

I don't believe that anyone in Blount Co is actively recruiting players but I do believe players and families are moving there so they can participate on a successful and winning team and learn the game that they love.

I hear/see people say that kids need to stay where they are and just tough it out and parents are teaching them to be quitters. I certainly don't agree with that and believe it's far from the truth.  Why should a kid stay in a bad situation when they have an opportunity to better them self.  If you as an adult have a dead end job or the boss is constantly putting you down are you going to stay????  Of course not, your going to find a better company (Alcoa-Maryville) to work for.

If you want to keep the good players at your school you need to get a coach that will create an atmosphere that is beneficial to the kid as well as the team.  One that can evaluate talent and put the players where they need to be instead of where mom and dad want them.  A coach that understands the game and what it takes to win.  Yes our boys need to be team players but they also need to play to WIN.

I recall years ago going to a Saturday game at Billy Blount. They were recognizing the Middle School Football team that went undefeated. Both Gary and George were at the game in front of me.They said hey let us hear it for the future.I said the future stars of Alcoa and Maryville.Basically Heritage and William Blount are JV teams of Alcoa and Maryville.

What year was that again?

Ive been in contact with some folks at Alcoa about possibly them and Maryville donating some of our older championship trophies to ol willy b and heritage. The problem is that those guys cant even lift the trophies to move to the shelf at their respective schools.

Again, I fail to see how one good feeder program is worse than having two really bad ones. That was the reality for Carpenters and Union Grove. The two programs won a combined 1 game the season before they folded. And how does having one feeder team discourage late bloomers? If anything, having one team increases the level of competition and makes the players better.

Its possible. I just see it differently. Is the team really better or are they taking advantage of having such a bigger pool of students to choose from than the teams they are usually beating? Time will tell if the hs becomes successful against schools their size. You and I will never agree in this and thats cool.  I do respect your devotion despite our different opinions

If there is any positive from the county in football it has to be Rick Young's great ability to get a large number of kids out for Middle school football. I also have disagreed with putting the two together but there was a danger at one time one of the school's were close to having to give up football because there just wasn't enough kids coming out. I guess in hindsight I would take what their doing as for one of the schools to be without. Rick has done a great job and I hope he never gets tired of it and coaches for a long time. The county is very fortunate to have him as a middle school coach.

It’s a shame they didn’t hire him for the next level...

Your 100% right except a snake oil salesman came rolling into town and sold the people that are in charge cases of that stuff. The other day when I mentioned that Everett could start a Single A Football team since enough kids are going there I would just about bet anyone one of the reasons they wouldn't consider it is because 2 of their wins would be against Heritage and William Blount.

    • Unfortunately the Sweetwater thing spooked some principals and ADs looking for head coaches in this cycle, even though Caleb wasn't at fault in any way. He had multiple OC opportunities. Personally, I'm glad he chose Karns, given that my oldest grandson plays in their middle school program.  Caleb is a good coach and a class act. It's a win for Karns to get him.
    • I was asked about this untrue speculation last night at our banquet(and several times over the last few weeks) which has been circulating on this website and through word of mouth. I am not taking the Rockvale job, nor have I even interviewed for that job or ANY other job since coming to Tullahoma. I have no desire to leave Tullahoma, my family and I love it here. We are committed to building our Lady Cats basketball program. I wanted to make sure our players, parents and stakeholders didn't get mixed messages from what I have continued  to communicate from day one and the untrue speculations of me leaving.  Coach Hibdon As stated above and I will add for clarification. This includes Blackman, we have no desire to leave Tullahoma, go back to Rutherford Co (even Blackman) or ANYWHERE else. There has been speculation from day 1 that I may be leaving for another job particularly RuCo and I have had to address the speculations many times. So I felt it necessary to make a statement for the basketball community and mostly our Ttown community to hear my commitment again amongst these constant rumors. We love this community, love living by the lake and no desire to move our 3rd grader and 6th grader from this school system. I wanted to make these statements for all those who are invested and interested in Lady Cats Basketball that my family and I are committed to being a part of Tullahoma High and the Tullahoma community for many years.
    • Well well well,  It was just a matter of time before the wheels fell plumb off the dragon wagon, and that pos  is sittin' over on highway 61 #### up in the ditch.   I called it 2 years ago everybody thought it was so cute with the church van and the K-town basement boys.   And here we are.  This is about to get fugly.  It's a mess and it's about to go public.   Investigators are just now scratching the surface.  Stay tuned.  Watch the news in the next few nights. Just when you thought you had seen it all, here we go......................
    • I am betting on that one too. They will rock 4A. Many don't see it coming.
