Well, it's time again for the offseason...and as much as I love basketball, it's a sad time for me. I'm already looking forward to kickoff of the 2018 football season. Every year, right after the state championship games, I like to see if I can take a crack and predict the next season's state champions. I didn't do great for 2017, but I did manage to correctly call 4 of the 6 Division 1 winners (D-II drug me down, haha). It would be fun if everyone joined in and made their picks with me! If nothing else, it'll be entertaining to look back on this time next year.

As a disclaimer, I mean NO disrespect to any teams via lack of selection. Some of these are based on starters returning, and some are just a wild guess and a hope to luck up and be right. These are also not all teams that I happen to be cheering for :)

1A: Greenback

2A: Trousdale County

3A: Alcoa

4A: Greeneville

5A: Knoxville Catholic

6A: Oakland

DII-A: Nashville Christian

DII-AA: Grace Christian Academy (Knoxville)

DII-AAA: Ensworth

Hey, West Tennessee, let's just go ahead and cancel the 2018 football season!!!

Kinda like they did this year? :D

I could be completely wrong, it's happened before MANY times. I actually love a ton of teams from West TN and consider myself a supporter of them. HS football is like everything else though, it comes and goes in cycles. The East wasn't great in 2016 and the West killed it, for example. From my observations on what everyone returns, it looks to be another strong year for East and Middle TN.

My dad doesn't have a CoachT account, but I talked to him and he's going to do it this year as well. Here are his picks:

1A: Greenback

2A: Meigs County

3A: Alcoa

4A: Greeneville

5A: Henry County

6A: Oakland

DII-A: Nashville Christian

DII-AA: Grace Christian Academy (Knoxville)

DII-AAA: MBA

Grace? Really? You must not have seen Lausanne play. It will be Lausanne again.Grace looses a lot. I would put 3 teams easily before them. Lausanne, CPA, Notre Dame. Until Grace actually beats Webb I can't put them before us either. Strange pick to me. Lausanne is so much better than everyone in this division right now, I don't see how anyone could pick against them who has watched High School football.

I’m just glad Rankin was smart enough to get Webb of the Tornado schedule. He dodged a bullet there. Whew.....

    • Began as a discussion, and evolved into a trainwreck...   Don't know how many of the TC "old guard" are left, but I feel for y'all.   Everybody has to get the last word... no matter the cost and sometimes the cost is high.
    • He may have possibly said that to get the best out of him. Back when I was in school word got out I was going to transfer and Coach Story popped off and ask Coach Wilson in front of the team if Maryville was going to get a jock strap in return on this trade. That got back to me and I got fired up and stayed just to show them up. Now today Coach Story is one of my best friends.
    • Dylan's Dad, I'm glad you replied. I wanted to reply but wasnt willing to take the bait. There were 20 wrestlers on the team. I may be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 5 of the 20 attend McCallie right now and one will next year. At most, there are/were 6 kids on that team who attend McC. That leaves 14 other team members who have ZERO affiliation with McC (outside of maybe some friends) who represented our state to the best of their ability and wrestled their butts off that weekend. That weekend was a first for Tennessee and obviously a small step in the right direction for us as a state. Congratulations TEAM TN BLACK!
    • Danny Wilson is the only one that come's to mind but I don't know where he is at now.
    • I am pro coach all day long but there are some knucklehead hires for sure.
