How about this playoff plan??

The current system would be used up till the semi-finals.   At that point, we could adopt this new system.   Keep in mind the selected media members would have no affiliation to a specific team or region:

It would be interesting to develop some type of formula to rank the  Semi-final teams at the end of the season.   This would involve elements such as Strength of schedule, region finish, home and away wins etc..   Combine this formula with a very specific number of media members recognized for their Statewide coverage to rank the final four teams (playoff committee).   Poll the selected media members for the 1-4 rankings and then combine that with the computer rankings and set the matchups.   One vs. Four and Two vs. Three for the semi-finals.   Top ranked team hosts (one and two).   Then have a legit title game in Cookeville for each class.

This would be inline with our current College Football Championship.

The upside to this plan is the four semi-finalist had to play their way into the Title game so they can't be "left out" like the college version.

i actually like that. problem being is say a memphis team is 4th and a knox team is 1st thats a long commute for a 4th round game and if they win having to travel a good way again the next week.

You may want to start by scraping the current system and dropping from nine (9) divisions to four (4) divisions.  Tennessee currently is a "FEEL GOOD" state where everyone deserves a state championship trophy.

Here's a plan:

Long story, short. Bring back all privates. Divide into six classes by computer rankings. These are past five years. Current D2-AAA teams (Brentwood Academy etc) start at in 6A.

Here's where enrollment comes in. Teams move up only two classes max, unless on their own. Alcoa would 5A  Teams move down a Max of two classes.

These are their state rankings the past five years and a rough breakdown of regions. (Yes some changes would be likely) be. 56 teams. I tried to keep it at 7 each but had to go 8 in two, 6 in two.

Each two years go back and re-do it, from the previous five years.

I'd love to see all these schools play each other. Some really really good football teams in this mix.

Same as teams being in a group with Maryville, some of the lowest rated 1A teams in the state being in with South Pittsburg, etc.

As for travel, there are similar or worse trips already in Division I and I. I haven't done the other groups yet, things may be better, worse, or similar.

To bring everybody back together you have to get rid of or severely limit financial aid like back in the 80's.  Otherwise it is just way too lopsided.  When schools like BA, MBA, Baylor, McCallie and Ensworth are offering 40 kids aid and schools like JP2 only have 8 across every sport and not just football it is not a level playing field.  The disparity has greatly increased.  I used to want to compete against them but now with the way the aid is given out and the attempts to circumvent the rules with work for aid, I could careless if they ever come back in.  Form your own league if you want all these aid players which is not fair to the publics to compete against can just leave.  They do not interest me anymore.  Restrict the aid and then you will be more welcomed back.
