Rhyne Howard was runner-up in last year's Ms Basketball voting in AAA. She is now a 6'2" senior and continues to lead her team and set records during her senior season at Bradley Central. The Bearettes are currently ranked #2 in the state and #24 in the country. Despite losing four starters off last years 32-1 team and another starter who transferred this season, the Bearettes are 22-0 under the leadership of Howard who is the lone senior.

She carries a 3.78 GPA at Bradley Central and has signed with the Kentucky Lady Wildcats where she will be majoring in engineering. She had offers from a multitude of D1 schools.

Among her achievements are 2199 points in her career (thru 01/26/18) which places her 10th all time in the storied Bearette program. With 53 more points she will move into 7th place. She also scored 151 points as an 8th grader at her previous school while playing on the varsity team before transferring to BCHS.

Her team is 108-11 in her 4 years at BCHS, including 54-1 the past two seasons.  For her career, besides the 2199 points, she has accumulated 826 rebounds, 478 steals, 486 assists and 179 blocks thru Friday night, 01/26.

Some of the accolades for Howard include:

1st team All-State as a sophomore and junior and you can add another All-State recognition for this year when they are announced.

She is ranked #10 game in the HoopGurlz Basketball Prospects, #8 guard by All-Star Girls Report and #18 by Prospects Nation.

She was nominated for the McDonald's All-American team this season. She led the team to back-to-back championships in the prestigious Greenville Lady's Classic in 2016 and 2017 and was named MVP both years. She was named a Naismith Mid-Season Player of the Year nominee.

She has been named to the All-District regular season team as a freshman, sophomore and junior and the MVP of the District as Player of the Year the past two years. She was named to the All-Region Tournament team all three seasons and MVP for the past two years, She was named the Player of the Year last season for the greater Chattanooga area by the Best of Preps.

The Bearettes have won seven in-season tournaments during her 3+ seasons and swept the post-season tournaments in district play for the past three seasons and the region for the past two. They reached the state semi-finals in her sophomore season.

There are many great players in Tennessee and Rhyne ranks with the very best of them.

All of these stats are impressive. Here are my thoughts on who should be nominated.

A- Tess Darby and Chloe Moore. Not sure of a third.

AA- Gracee Dishman, Shutes and Akira Levy

AAA Rhyne Howard, Brinae Alexander and Madison Hayes

I have seen Hayes play last season and this season and she definitely deserves to be in the conversation for AAA Miss Basketball. Based on talent and stats she is producing she shouldn't be slept on. If I had a vote she would be in my top 3.

I"ve seen Hayes play several times this season and I agree she is an up and coming player. Give her more time to develop her game and she'll may be Ms Basketball material in a couple of years.

Alexander, Hemingway,& Howard

3 really good ones. I got to see some of the very best talent (guys and girls) at East Hamilton for the East/ West classic. On the girls side, I saw: Oak Ridge, Houston, Arlington, Notre Dame, Bradley Central and East Hamilton. It appears that all 5 of the AAA teams are top rated statewide. I saw:

Dowdle and Guinn- Oak Ridge                          Impressive team, very good defensively

Hemingway- Houston                                         May have been sick one of the games

Very Balanced team- Arlington                         Lost a couple heart breakers, but will be a tough out.

Howard - Bradley Central                                  A totally different level of player from what I saw

Hayes- East Hamilton                                         Gonna be a good one (only 10th grade)

IMO, Howard is hands down the best of this group. There may be some others I haven't seen and the best player on Riverdale's team (Alexander) is a must consider due to the national success they have every year.

Good luck Ms. Howard...

Those are the three that I also believe should get nominated. Any of the three would be deserving of winning the award. The stats for Rhyne Howard are great, but no more  impressive than Brinae. Brinae not only has played in the state tournament, but has won the tournament the past two years. Also, she is a Vandy signee.  She plays in the toughest district in the state. One player that may be overlooked is Elizabeth Dixon from Ridgeway. How in the world can a McDonald's All Star not be Miss Basketball? I am not understanding why her name is not mentioned as a sure finalist and possible winner. I realize the other three are names that were mentioned last year, but what about Dixon? She is currently averaging 24 points a game and has signed with GA Tech. I think she should get a nod at being Miss Basketball for AAA. Like I said, any of the three above would be good choices, but I don't know how you can leave Elizabeth Dixon off that list.

Since being shunned from the McDonald’s All-American team, Rhyne Howard has had 39 pts, 41 pts, and 38pts.  Last night against against hometown rival Cleveland High, Rhyne had a triple double with 28 pts, 10 reb, and 10 steals.  She could have averaged 35 per game this season but she chose to build the confidence of her young teammates so that they would be ready for tournament time.  There is no other player in the state of TN that can compete at her level on either end of the court.  Without a doubt, Rhyne Howard should be the favorite for AAA Miss Basketball!

Same can be said for Brinae Alexander, Liz Dixon, Jayla Hemingway.... They are all great players. Howard is probably the favorite to win it, but to say there's no other player in the state that can compete at her level is a bit misleading. Great player, probably will win Miss Basketball....

    • hey goat! how’s monterey looking this year?!
    • several people actually. they said “snoball, do you know who railbird81 is on coacht?” I said, “never heard of her.” they said, “you ought to check it out they’re getting fired up on there like the old days.” well, you can imagine my disappointment when I came here expecting sharp, witty banter and all i found was more akin to toddlers slap fighting. and what looks like 1 guy/gal talking to themselves with multiple accounts.
    • Shopping? His family is loaded and he's 6'6 I'm pretty sure he could start anywhere in upper East TN,So no need to shop. Word is Witten got caught trying to work him out on campus and some 7 on 7 while playing athletics for Sullivan East. Word got around pretty quick and Someone turned them into TSSAA.
    • Quick update on Jacob -  Jacob celebrated his 16th birthday at Vanderbilt on Tuesday and has been in decent spirits.  His sense of humor has begun to show as he was visited by many friends.  He is swallowing a lot better now and has eaten some of his favorites (Chik-Fil-A and Five Guys).   He is getting prepared to head to Atlanta to the Shepherd Center first thing tomorrow morning.  His family has been waiting on insurance approval. In case you dont know the Shepherd Center it a world class facility and supposedly one of the best in the country for spinal injury rehab.  Praying for perfect results there. Considering the circumstances, Jacob is in decent spirits.  He has some reflexive movement in his legs which I think is probably a very positive sign.  Don't read too much into that just yet as there is no telling what the real prognosis is... just hopeful that is good thing.  I am really just happy that it seems like he has a punchers chance of getting something back.  He is a strong young man and very determined so I think he will fight as hard as he can in physical therapy while down in Atlanta. More than one of you has asked me about an address to send donations.  I know GoFundMe isn't for everyone.  If you want to go that route, you can make a check to "Blackman Wrestling Club" and we will pass anything received directly to the Kinderdines.   Jacob Kinderdine c/o Blackman Wrestling 4836 Trevino Court Murfreesboro, TN  37128 Also, want to thank everyone who has donated so far.  Jacobs dad will take a month off work and stay in Atlanta with him.  They need to learn how to take care of him and do home therapy work..... and surely Jacob will be glad his dad can be there.  All that could not happen without you all.  Depending on what happens, they will probably end up doing some home remodeling in order to accommodate Jacob at their home.  Thanks again. Here's a pic I lifted from Facebook of Jacob on Oxy talking to his Uncle.  LOL
