Clark Range has to be the favorite.  Gibson County just had an off night last night. Clay County has beaten  Clark Range and Loretto (29-1) is loaded and some say got the best player in the state.

I know Greenfield is a long shot but we are just hoping to get back to the big house. But we sure are having fun watching these girls playing team ball.  They have brought a little town so much enjoyment and we support our Lady Jackets. .

Greenfield is the defending Champion and they're the team to beat. Until the King is removed, then the King is still the King. I hope we get one more shot, but there's only "realistically" about 5 teams in the State that can win it. IMO. I put us in one of those 5. If all goes as hoped, it will be a good battle on the hill this year and I hope we're there on Saturday fighting for it. I don't know Greenfield's entire history of girls basketball, but I agree with DMM88 up there. She's got to be one of the best of all time to come out of Greenfield. She's as cool as the other side of the pillow...when the heat is on.

I watched Memphis Business and Hillcrest tonight. I think Greenfield will win by a bunch but our game will be a test for sure. Memphis Business can play offense for sure. Question about them is can they keep from turning it over against our press. Neither team pressed tonight and they both had several TO's. I was impressed with the way they shot open threes and their post play. Our's is not the gimmie that some have predicted especially the running clock comments.

This year there are several good teams and I believe this tournament will be one of the most competitive across the board that we’ve seen. I do not believe the East has a team that can truly compete this year but I never saw South Greene coming a few years ago either so you never know.  I think you’ve got 3 top tier teams in no particular order, Clarkrange, Greenfield and Loretto with 3 teams Clay County Gibson County and Summertown just slightly below them.  I just hope we can get the best 4 teams playing each other in the semis and not in round 1 like so many years in the past.

After doing some critical thinking in my research facility down in the holler I have Figured out that two teams are going to get automatic first round byes to the semi’s.  Those teams will be whoever is lucky enough to draw one of the east Tennessee teams this year. There is no South Greene walking through the door at the Glasshouse this year so the representatives from the eastern part of the state  will be a one and done.

I do know the first game even when we won it is an adjustment much like UTM was for Region 7 A. For a team to get up there and get a first round win to settle the nerves is a big thing. I wouldn't necessarily consider any team a bye. I noticed Oneida played you guys pretty tough one game. About us, we go through stretches where we are just really good and could beat anybody and we go through stretches where we play great defense and skate by. we have a tough one tomm. Night in Memphis to get up there.

    • The only thing that was said at half time of the 45-0 game was Coach Story, he said: "I know y'all have been out there a lot, but kick-off team, y'all need to get down there faster!" Then he and the other coaches proceeded to go into the coaches office and we all went nuts!  It was the only time I can ever remember coaches not saying anything at half time. Definitely a great memory!!!

    • When Danny was a senior he was the quarterback on the 82 team and also the placeholder on extra points. At the end of the game Heritage scored a touchdown with very little time left and went ahead 9-0. On the following extra point Danny rose up and threw a perfect pass to one of his receivers which made it 11-0 and Heritage's first win against Maryville since the series started in 77. Maryville fans were highly ticked off because they felt like it was rubbing salt in the wound. The following year when both teams met again at Maryville  the Rebels ran away with the game and after the first couple of touchdowns they went for two points after each score for a pay back and the score was 45-0 at halftime. The following Monday Bob Gilbert the sports eiditor for the local paper bashed Maryville in an article called the Humilation of Teenagers and tore into Maryville even though he was a graduate of the school. Those were the good ole days when Heritage had decent teams and the rivalry between them and Maryville was a fun event to see.
