flip has been made lets have some fun , did the coin flip really matter? or who came out on the better side of the flip ,Macon or Upperman?

What really matters is who wins the district tournament. Whether they will get an easier road to sub state or a little tougher.

So Smith and Cannon advance. Does anyone know the logic behind the double bye bracket? What was wrong with 1v8 etc?

That would be to simple.  My guess is Dana wanted it this way.  Her teams almost always finish top 2 in district.  Smart by her but not to smart for teams that consistently finish in bottom portion of district.

This years bracket is the same as last. Those decisions are made by the coaches and Athletic Directors well before the season starts. I guess the decision to try to play in the TTU gym is to get our local teams (big gym) experience, before moving on.

Look at it this way it’s easier to beat say a 6 seed then a 3 seed to advance than it would be to beat Upperman or Macon once I’ll take my chances winning two games against lower seeds any day over trying to beat one of them

It’s the same way in Boys too. I just don’t get the logic behind it. If there is a 3 way tie for 1st 2 teams get guaranteed spots in the Regional while another has to play a elimination game plus then has an extra game to deal with.

While the brackets have worked out and #5 Cannon plays #4 York. Now the winner of that game has to play a well rested Macon team after playing a elimination game. Ditto DeKalb vs Upperman.

The consolation game for 3rd is a critical game since the runner-up in 7AA is not very good.

I have seen both York and DeKalb play and they should have no issues with whoever finishes 2nd in district 7.

Cumberland lead 41-0 vs Grundy at one point, and Bledsoe was almost as bad.

Of course I believe York should be in 7AA since everyone else in the district is on US highway 127 (Except Grundy) and they are closer to most of those schools than some in 8AA. Watertown to Jamestown is a long trip!!

York with a good win over Cannon feel like Cannon has the pieces to win just can’t get over the hump

I don’t understand it either. I have watched that group of juniors from Cannon play in Livingston the past couple of years in the summer and they are legit. I’m not sure what the problem is. I wished 8AA would go back to a standard bracket also 1-8, 2-7, 3-6 and 4-5 only logical and fair way in my opinion. I think the tournaments is Macon’s to lose.

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
