Being ineligible?

ok so i was never actually on my basketball roster for my school basketball team other than playing jv. I live in a different county than the school that i attend now and am wanting to transfer and play for a school that's in the county i live in now, would i be able to play next year as a senior or would i not be allowed to?

Based on TSSAA rules, you would not be eligible.  What I believe you are saying is that you only "participated" on the JV team,  However, you are still registered as a TSSAA athlete.  In order to be eligible to play at another school, you must have a "bonafide change of address" or some extenuating circumstances that could be seen as a "hardship" and cold be approved by the TSSAA.  It is ok to call the TSSAA and ask.  They can tell you if you aren't sure about rules.

That is very good advice and accurate as well. Unless there is some issue, you would have to make a physical move, even if it is just across the road, in order to change schools.

Unless the rules were changed, and I'm reading this correct, if you are playing out of county and want to transfer to your zoned school I think you can play (like I said, unless the rules have changed).  Have your parents check with you local tssaa representative to be sure.  In the past, Knox County has had kids start their athletic career at a out of zone school then later transfer to their base school with out sitting out.

The rules have changed. Once you begin your high school career, you have to make a physical move closer to the school you are moving to. Even if it is just across the road or to a property next door, a move has to be made unless there are certain circumstances that the TSSAA has to approve. You can go anywhere in the state as an 8th grader with or without a move, but once you start and have an athletic record, a move must be made to be eligible in a certain sport.

Based on info that you have given, if you just simply transfer you would be ineligible because you have established an athletic record at the school you now attend.  To be eligible you must move out of one school district into another school district, but that would be impossible to go to the school in the county you live in now because you attend an out of county school.  Moving across the road or next door won't satisfy a bona fide change of address.  If you want to attend the school in your county, you could probably apply to TSSAA for a Hardship to get eligible.  I would assume that because you attend out of your county, a bus from the school you attend probably does not come by your house.  Transportation could possibly be a reason for a Hardship.

Have the coach call TSSAA but I think you could probably work around that and become eligible.

If you practice 3 days or more and are enrolled in that school then you are deemed ineligible to play for another school without a bonifide change of address.Regardless if it was just JV or not,in football summer practices count also.

The best thing you can do is call the TSSAA directly. As much as people here believe they know the rules you have the ability to go directly to the source.

That is very true calling and asking is best, but I do know that athletes have transfered and been eligible to play if the current schools states that you are transfering for non athetic reasons.  So the school you're trying to go to needs to have some academic courses not offered at your current school if its for non athletic reasons.
