REGION 5 | 2A

Back to back evictions form the playoffs in 2015 and 2016 by Marion- as strong a squad as there are been in 2A those 2 years.

2015- Marion takes a 17-3 lead into halftime, we onside kick to start the 2nd half and got a big play and a quick score to make it 17-10 and The Rock was rockin. Marion with the Hamilton kid promptly scored 3 straight on the way to a 38-10 final.

2016- Forrest takes the opening drive and rams it down Marion's throat for a 7-0 lead and we were thinking, "Well they aren't as good as last year and we are better, maybe this will be a game." That lasted a very short time, as I think they got it to 55-7 before we scored a last second TD for a 55-14 final.

Marion went on to lose to Trezevant both years for the Gold Ball- but we all know the Bears were similar to Jon Jones- he juiced and they fixed grades. Marion was the true champ those 2 years.

TSSAA should strip that trophy.

CA is the preseason favorite. Lots of talent in their senior class. Forrest, Lewis County, or Eagleville could knock them off with some luck or CA miscues. This region is underrated - they went 3-1 in the first round of the playoffs last season and CA knocked off Waverly (decisively) in Round 3.

This will be a solid region again this year.   Top to bottom, as good as any other region except for region 7.   That one should be killer again this year.  CA will be the team to beat, but Forrest, Lewis County, and Eagleville will all be tough outs for anybody.   Community has a ton of returning players, but lose a very good QB.   Summertown has 19 starters back, but that's 19 starters off a team that only won 1 game.

Forrest questions:

- Coach S- tighter with discipline, penalties, or not? (I don't fault Coach Johns last year, I blame a young team, which leads to another question, have they grown up?)

- New play callers on offense (Coach S) and defense (Delk)

- The SUPER talented class of 2020. How much can they deliver as juniors

- #2 at QB. Signs of brilliance but occasional questionable decision making when pressured.

- Will Forrest's line be able to open holes for the run game. What about pass blocking?

- How will staff and kids handle tight games. Play to win or try not to lose.

- Kicking game. Colvin kid has a good leg. Is he ready to hit for distance on stalled drives in the red zone consistently.

- Can defense control LOS and can secondary prevent big plays

- First two games. Rockets MUST get at least a split, and ideally, if you want to compete for a 2nd, 3rd round playoff type season, you need to beat BGA. A Fayetteville loss is almost a season killer morale wise.
