The 2018 Induction Class of the Tennessee Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame is a West Point graduate and state champ from Science Hill, two referees, and three coaches all from East TN.
The banquet will be held Aug 18, reception beginning at 5 pm, dinner after, all at the Foundry in Knoxville.

Our first lifetime service inductee is Coach Jon Renner. Jon is one of those quiet guys doing it all out of the spotlight. Jon has been contributing to our sport for over 25 yrs, first as a referee and then as an assistant for Jefferson County, Carson Newman College and Science Hill. Coach Jeff Price attributes much of the Science Hill success to the work Jon has done. Jon is also a pioneer in girls wrestling and is a big part of the reason Tennessee holds a leading place across the country in girls wrestling

This next lifetime service inductee has been officiating for 40 years. He's the current President and Assigning Officer of the NE TN Wrestling Officials Association. Jeff Arnold has officiated 17 state tournaments and been assigning since 2005. In addition to his officiating and training duties, Jeff has coached special teams for the Carson Newman football team for five years.

Joining Jeff Arnold in the lifetime service category today is Chris Coover. Chris has been officiating for 25 years and called 30 state tournament finals! He's also officiated numerous big college tournaments and matches since 2003. Chris is a leader in Knoxville and across the state. He's the Knoxville assigner and Secretary/Treasurer of the Knoxville Wrestling Officials Association. Chris wrestled at Purdue University and not only used his experience to be one of the top officials in the state he also coached several teams in the Knoxville area.

Marty Carpenter has been with William Blount high school as head or assistant coach for 25 years, beginning in 1983. His teams won 277 matches in his 15 years as head coach. He was inducted into the Blount County Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2005. Marty was a charter Future Champions and AAU member and has been involved with Team TN.

Coach Chuck Carter rounds out this class of 2018! He's coached in Northeast TN for about 30 years contributing to the development of the sport and the young men who participated with him. He's started programs, coached middle school and club teams throughout Morristown.

Our Outstanding American Inductee is Erick Waage. Hewas the 2002 171 lb state champ from Science Hill. He graduated from West Point and has served our country and his family since. Capt Waage has served multiple tours in the Middle East and accomplishments too many list here. The" Outstanding American" category is for someone who has succeeded outside of wrestling due in part to something they gained while wrestling.

Please help me celebrate the individuals who have contributed so much to our sport and helped shape the lives of so many. See you on August 18 in Knoxville at the Foundry.
