Early Class AA Predictions

We may get to see Westview play Cumberland tomorrow at Hilton Head S.C. This would be a great test for both teams early in the season. They both must win today.... I think this neutral site game could give the rest of the state some insight on where theses teams will be in Feb/March... I like Westview by 6-10 if they get an opportunity to play.

Just watched Dyersburg the first quarter and I can’t believe it, how did they ever beat Gibson County before. 1/16 shooting and 6 layups missed. 17-3 after one quarter Gibson County. Maybe just a bad quarter but I think GC is creating a lot of their problems for Dyersburg. Real disappointed in this Dyersburg team, 30-7 now and not even halftime yet. Whoever said AA is down this year I will have to agree.

Now you know what I was complaining about the other night when they beat us in Dyersburg. We didn't play as a team and made a lot of mistakes. Tonight, we were totally opposite- more focused and we played faster. In AA, I believe Westview is still the best team around here and we caught them on a very bad night for them. If Dyersburg handles the press like they did tonight, WV will destroy them. As far as Jackson SS is concerned, they are aggressive, fast, board crashers, and pretty undisciplined. If we play disciplined basketball tomorrow night, I like our chances at home against them.

Westview beat Miami (Ferguson) High School today in South Carolina (75-33) in the Seahawk Holiday Classic in Hilton Head, South Carolina?? This sets up a match with Cumberland County tomorrow and that should be a good one in this early season tester between two strong Tennessee AA programs. This family of Pioneers are pulling for you. Interesting side note, Miami-Ferguson has a student body population of over 4000 (Wow....can you imagine the lunchroom chaos??)

Gibson County plays this fast I don't think any one beats them late in the year. They play lights out defensively and playing fast creates a lot of space for their shooters and their girls that attack the rim. They played with an attitude tonight and probably was getting Dyersburg back for the two practices they had after that game in Dyersburg. But Dyersburg is a good team and will be a team to be dealt with late.

Whats so special or makes you and everyone else so sure that Macon Co will win state and that Westview is the best team around here? I think Macon Co is good, just from seeing them last year. Westview is a perennial state tournament team but loss to Single A Gibson Co. There are a few more teams that have a chance, i think. Upperman of course, South Greene is a good team, Grainger, Cumberland Co. From the west i disagree. I think Dyersburg and South Side  will be fine come tournament time. Folks in west tn always count out others and put Westview up front. They aren't the same team

I agree with everything you said! Only thing I will add you can’t leave out a good Crockett Co, Chester Co, and Lexington all are potential good teams from West Tn! South Side will be trouble as well!! After knocking off the Class A Defending State champions for the 2nd time, South Side has been tough down the stretch! We will battle Gibson Co in a hostile environment @7:30 for the championship!

South Side is loaded. They have played lights out this tournament. It will be a big challenge for us the way they are playing.

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
