Was Bearden at full strength roster-wise against Maryville?  Little surprised that Maryville beats them, although as long as the Rebels have Joe Anderson out there, nothing will completely shock me.

WB loses a key contributor for the remainder of the season.  Looks like senior Destin Deering is moving out of state during Christmas break.

Bearden is missing Pember until January. Maryville has definitely missed Kimble but he will be back soon. We played a lot of youngens last night.

Joe played good team ball last night and led the team and didn’t force things. It was a quiet 30 pts. Bearden played tough D out top which opened up the dribble drive. When #24 checked himself out of the contest, the middle opened up a little for MHS. It was a playoff atmosphere. Bearden needs to scout the officials. When I walked in the gym for the ladies game, the people I sit with had the scouting report on the crew. Just watching them call the girls game should be a tip off.

I’ve never seen Joe not play a team game. Rarely forces anything and does a GREAT job leading the Rebs. He plays such a complete game and still has a mid-range game which is seldom seen.

I’m probably the only Irish fan that loves watching Joe play....

As a neutral fan here, I thought the officiating was pretty one sided especially in the first half. 4 technical fouls in a half? I’m still confused bout what each one was about. If Maryville can win at Bearden, I will be shocked. And I doubt those refs will be apart of that game. When do they play again?

Great win for Maryville. Anderson gets all the pub- deservedly so, he is the MVP of district, IMO- but Gale is as good of a pure shooter as I have seen at Maryville. When those two are hot and knocking down 3’s, they can beat anybody on a given night.

Bearden had 12-0 and 13-0 runs in the game and still lost. They are very talented but they lose focus on both ends of the court and have too many intensity lapses for a team with their experience, imo.

As for officiating, Red Rebels is exactly correct about the crew. When one particular ref who will remain nameless shows up like he did last night, the officials always seem to be the center of attention, regardless of what teams are playing. IMO, it’s not a good thing when the officiating crew is so noticeable and when this particular official is there, officiating always seems to be VERY noticeable.

That guy is the worst official in East TN. If I was coaching, I would prefer a 2 man crew. Pay him and let him go home. He would want to stay though so he could make it about himself.

The sad part is I think he is actually a pretty good ref when he sticks to calling the game and doesn’t try to become the center of attention.

I know firsthand from playing and then watching HS basketball for many years that it can get very emotional, especially when the gym is packed and two rivals are playing. Coaches and players have to keep their poise, especially when you have an officiating crew that is known for calling T’s.

Cutting to the chase........for Bearden fans that think they might have gotten a raw deal last night because of the technicals just remember that Maryville got two critical T’s called on them in last year’s game at Maryville in the fourth quarter for trash talking to Bearden. The moral of the story is pretty simple- just shut up and play basketball.

    • He may have possibly said that to get the best out of him. Back when I was in school word got out I was going to transfer and Coach Story popped off and ask Coach Wilson in front of the team if Maryville was going to get a jock strap in return on this trade. That got back to me and I got fired up and stayed just to show them up. Now today Coach Story is one of my best friends.
    • Dylan's Dad, I'm glad you replied. I wanted to reply but wasnt willing to take the bait. There were 20 wrestlers on the team. I may be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 5 of the 20 attend McCallie right now and one will next year. At most, there are/were 6 kids on that team who attend McC. That leaves 14 other team members who have ZERO affiliation with McC (outside of maybe some friends) who represented our state to the best of their ability and wrestled their butts off that weekend. That weekend was a first for Tennessee and obviously a small step in the right direction for us as a state. Congratulations TEAM TN BLACK!
    • Danny Wilson is the only one that come's to mind but I don't know where he is at now.
    • I am pro coach all day long but there are some knucklehead hires for sure.
    • This is a great question. The retirement seemed a little premature. I do not know the coach personally, but I hope he has found what he is looking for. He is a fine Christian man with a lot of principle and morals about him. I wish him nothing but the best. There are some players in the box for the next coach. This is going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
