McKenzie vs. Westview

The never ending saga in what has become an intense rivalry between Westview and McKenzie girls' soccer continued tonight in the Region 7A championship game at Bethel University. The Lady Chargers were leading 6-1 with a running clock and appeared to be well on their way to winning the region and hosting a sectional game on Saturday. The referees stopped the game with 3:01 remaining, suspended it, and walked off of the field following some controversy between a Westview player and one of the refs. The TSSAA will make its decision on who won the game Friday morning. The TSSAA will have to consult the rule book since the game was not suspended for lightning,or other natural reasons, player or coach ejections. The TSSAA may rule the game a forfeit on Westview since the controversy involved the Lady Chargers. Both head coaches, and principals of the two schools agreed that the game will not be continued. McKenzie's head coach even told Westview head coach Seth Coleman that as far as she is concerned, his team won the game fair and square. Even though the Lady Chargers were leading by five goals with three minutes remaining, they may have to travel to Memphis on Saturday to play a sectional game against Memphis East. If the TSSAA rules in favor of Westview, it will play Memphis Business College at home Saturday. Westview principal Jeromy Davidson will find out the TSSAA decision early Friday morning and pass it along to The Press, which will be posted here as soon as the information is available.

There has to be more to this besides a player and a ref not getting along. That is what "Red" cards are for. You just don't walk off the field as a group.

I have heard from a source very close to Westview it had to do with verbal misconduct on the part of a referee towards a Westview player. I won’t get more specific than that but the ref was completely in the wrong if what I was told was true. And I believe it is seeing as how tssaa ruled in favor of Westview.
