If true there are Some major problems going on in the football program ....

From a parent of a football player

"Players tried having a meeting but was shut down by coaches" .... Is this allowed in High School anyway ?

"players are quitting "

"parents are saying they are going to transfer there kids if change is not made "

this is coming from a parent

DB Football - Real Talk (FB)

Anyone heard of any of this or anything else

Sounds like what every school in the country goes thru when experiencing a period of not being successful.  We now live in a world where it is easy to quit.  Easy to spread rumors or mud sling.  Easy to threaten to transfer to greener pastures.  Easy to throw a coach under the bus.  Easy to place blame on others instead of owning their own problems or issues.  Easy to make excuses.  Shall I continue........?

I've heard a few things but not about the meeting.Every player and every parent has to weigh out what is best for them.Db is a great place to get a quality education. No it's not perfect but show me a school that is.When you have a kid playing football or coming up and you see something is a cluster,it's hard not to say what you think.I got a double dose of the way things are done in Kingsport over the years.I had one son  that was the strongest on the team and a athlete during the spring of his 9th grade year .He was disrespected and that has to be one of the dumbest things ever by a coach but it is what it is and my son in no way was going to play from that point on but at the same time wasn't going to leave his friends or school.I had another son who loved most of the coaches and was treated with respect and had a great football career at DB.All was good until he was a threat to actually come back and help this weak azz program around the same time. Then he to was disrespected and it is what it is once again.

Well I don't know if you a Fan of DB and have followed the tradtion of being at the games but this is not ME , this is about the players that experience this everyday ... more I could speak about but I'm not bringing up on this thread !

Simply put every die hard Fan at DB has seen the Football program go down hill in the last several years ...

half the staduim leaves after half (band fans ) , even the admin .... Do you go to watch a band under the lights on a Friday night ? No you go to watch football but at DB you have a band director making 6 figures and a coach making 5 and it's a middle to low 5 !! Now like I said if you have been following DB football then you would see what the fans have been seeing for years ... Not only that but the players are making comments about the stands emptying after half ... AD  let the program down when (The national search ) - was not a search ...

33 - Do you think if DB went back to playing non-conference games against local teams in the Tri-cities that would help?   All that does is pad the wins against someone like Volunteer, Sullivan Central, etc.    But would that satisfy the fan base?     Or is the frustration that DB can't compete with the Greeneville's, Maryville's, Alcoa's, etc.?

My response was not directed solely at DB.......but nationally and the culture we are raising our kids in.  I am a complete school guy, but there is a problem if the band director is getting 6 figures and the athletic coaches pale in comparison.  I hope most of that salary is from boosters and not the school system itself.  But.....at the same time, it DB band is putting a great product on display, they should get the support they are looking for.  I am not from East TN.  I am from across the state, but I will tell you this:  DB has been known to be a great regular season football program, but getting knocked off early in the playoffs.  It leaves coaches across the state scratching their heads.  I have seen DB play 1 time in my life.......on a Fall Break mini vacation to East TN.  It sounds like they need to schedule UP a little to prepare them for the grind of weeks 11 thru 15.  JMO looking from far away.

Schedule up???      DB played non-conference games this year against Greeneville (4A), Alcoa (3A) and Oak Ridge (5A).    All but Oak Ridge are expected to win the gold ball in Cookeville, and I would not count out Oak Ridge in that either, their only loss was to Farragut by 6 points.

After the HVA game Friday we talked to several kids and parents from DB that we did life with and knew while living in Kingsport for about 5 years (and a handful that I knew when I grew up there).  There was an obvious frustration with the new coaching staff, the way they came into power, and the untraditional product that they were producing.  I heard a couple of them debating about what they will do next year.  The senior parents were frustrated that their kids were missing out on some college opportunities because of the debacle.  One dad mentioned how Clark had a similar team and similar schedule last year with very different results.  Unprovoked they all complained about the halftime-band-parent-evacuation.  Though I presume many of the football parents use the facilities and hit the concession stand at halftime, I would also assume it isn't to demean the band.  Most of them appear to appreciate, respect, and support the band... doesn't seem unreasonable for the band peeps to return the favor by sticking around until the 4th quarter.

I know I piled on after the game this week, but as the dust has settled and HVA moves on... I am actually sad to see this bastion of tradition and dominance crumble in to ruins.  I am mostly sad for all the families and kids impacted by what appears to be an avoidable mess.  The one common theme we heard Friday was that the current state of trouble started with the AD and the "search" committee and went down hill from there.

DB has huge linemen, great running backs, a top-notch QB, plenty of capable athletes to spread on both sides of the ball, facilities to be envied, proud tradition, and a community that used to worship them - some still do.  The major problem I witnessed Friday night is that this coaching staff seems to operate on about a 5th grade to middle school level when it comes to play calling, game-time adjustments, and creativity.  I say fire them all... install Waco, Batman, and even Blazer in there as interim staff.  Guaranteed they at least know what the problems are to be fixed. #cleanhouse

Good point.  Duly noted.  I am speaking on an historical context.

Back when I was in school word got out I was going to transfer and Coach Story popped off and ask Coach Wilson in front of the team if Maryville was going to get a jock strap in return on this trade. That got back to me and I got fired up and stayed just to show them up. Now today Coach Story is one of my best friends.
    • Dylan's Dad, I'm glad you replied. I wanted to reply but wasnt willing to take the bait. There were 20 wrestlers on the team. I may be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 5 of the 20 attend McCallie right now and one will next year. At most, there are/were 6 kids on that team who attend McC. That leaves 14 other team members who have ZERO affiliation with McC (outside of maybe some friends) who represented our state to the best of their ability and wrestled their butts off that weekend. That weekend was a first for Tennessee and obviously a small step in the right direction for us as a state. Congratulations TEAM TN BLACK!
