Stewart County needed time to figure some things out. In the summer their leading scorer tore her ACL. She just recently came back and they looked good.

They have looked good at times without her up to this point as well. The other seniors have stepped up and Anna Gray plays harder than any player ive seen. you add the experience they return, plus experience they have gotten without their "go to player" on the court and add in two stellar twin freshman who will be two to watch over the next 3 years... if they gel all of this together with their "star" back... they will not only go deep in tournament play they may be looking further than regions. when they play hard, they are hard to handle. The one thing I fault them on is effort EVERY night. We shall see... I would not doubt they run the table the rest of the way of regular season.

Agreed PrimeXTime, they are very deep and could be dangerous down the stretch.

2.)  Stewart                         (5-2)

3.)  East Hickman              (4-3)

3.)  Lewis                             (4-3)

3.)  Camden                        (4-3)

The District Schedule is halfway complete as of tonight.  Creek Wood appears to be in the driver's seat for the district championship however teams 2-6 are very close and there is still a lot to be decided.

Big matchup tomorrow night in District 11AA.  If Stewart co. wants a chance at a regular season championship, tomorrow is a must win.

Looks like Stewart Co has made a statement should be fun for the next 3 weeks. i was hoping to see the Lions have a better show with East Hickman after 2 great games with LC and waverly. they have an oportunity to get one back friday.

In terms of overall records, this district is a strong as it has been in a while (6 of the 8 teams have won at least 10 games).

Stewart has the experience (tons of seniors) and depth to win the district.  They were patient and overcame the loss of Shephard for the first half of the season, which honestly probably helped their depth.  They are coming big back-to-back wins over Creek Wood and East Hickman at home.  They have the best shot to knock off Creek Wood for the District Tournament title (Creek Wood has won the past 6 years), especially since the tournament is at Stewart County.  With the amount of seniors they have and with the tournament on their home floor, it literally may be this year or never for them.

Same can be said for Lewis County.  Another senior heavy team that if they are going to make a long post season run, it needs to be this year.  Talent level drops off significantly after this senior class, so they may be enjoying their last winning season for a while.  They have overcome the coaching drama of the past couple of years, and they are in the mix thanks to the play of their point guard and their posts.

Creek Wood goes as the 3-ball goes.  When they are hot from the outside, they can beat anyone.  When they are limited from out there, then they have to count on their defense to even give them a chance.  This appears to be one of the least athletic teams Creek Wood has had in a while.  In my opinion, Hohl is the district MVP.  The question is can she carry them to their 7th district tournament title in a row, especially when it will require them to beat Stewart County on their home floor?

It's shocking East Hickman is even in the discussion this year.  That team is nearly all freshmen and no one on the roster had much high school varsity experience coming in to this season. Seen them during the summer and they played extremely hard and shared the ball well, but thought they would be lucky to win 7 or 8 games, max.  Other district teams probably should be worried if their upperclassmen led teams are already being pushed and beaten by East Hickman this year.  Might be a group to watch the rest of the way and in the next few years.

Camden has been hot as of late, but took a 20+ point loss to East Hickman this week.  This is another rather youthful team (sophomore heavy if I am not mistaken?) that could be one to watch the next couple of years.  Seen them early in the season and they struggled with turnovers and ball security.  If they have shored that up recently, I can see them making some noise as well.

Fairview, Hickman, and Waverly all appear to be improved from last year.  Just not sure they have enough to be in real contention with the others.

Creek Wood has the path to the district championship.  They have 5 games remaining in the district.  They will be dangerous as always in the district.

The hottest team in the district right now is Stewart County.  They have beaten Creek Wood and East Hickman this week.  They also host the district tournament this year which is a major edge.

Lewis County, East Hickman, and Camden look like they will be 3-4-5 in any order depending on how the rest of the way goes.  Each of these teams could beat the other on any given night.  Each of them could compete with and potentially beat the top 2 teams with a great performance.

Fairview-Hickman County will be teams 6-7 in the district.  They are both improving.  They meet for the second time on Tuesday night.

Waverly rounds out the district.  They will probably play Creek Wood to open the district tournament.

big game tonight for both East and Lewis.  If Lewis drops this one to SC its going to put them a game back from East because I expect them to beat HIckman.  Also,  both still have to play Creek Wood.   Going to be difficult for them to get back in the top four for a first round home game.

    • Tax payer dollars are paid for certified teachers to "teach" and then coach. The primary job is to teach.  There are some district that ay awesome supplements and others that don't. Dyersburg and Dyer County are pretty close if I remember correctly. I would imagine that Football and basketball are above $10,000 now.  I've heard that Milan is $20,000 for boys basketball. I would imagine that football is more than that in Milan.  Collierville has camps that coaches get paid extra for. 3 camps a year, 100 kids a camp, $30,000 right there.  There are places like Memphis-Shelby County schools where the supplements are garbage even for the head coaches. I made less than $3,000 as the head assistant at Germantown in 2015 when we were 26-4 and one of the best teams in the Southeast. As a head middle school coach next year I will make between $4-5,000 at a municipal in Shelby County.  Coaches should be compensated for the jobs that are required but lets keep in mind that they are educators first.  It's pretty frustrating to other teachers that work their tale off teaching 6-7 classes a day to watch someone roam campus, not teach (or have very minimal responsibilities), and get paid the same (more with supplements) as a person who has the some years of experience or sometimes less.
    • This will get coaches leaving the profession very quickly if this kid wins this case. This is absurd...
