4 wins should be a gimme! But something tells me otherwise!

I wouldn’t say they are Gimme’s.  Morristown West did beat Jeff Co last year and Jeff Co waxed William Blount 40-14. Elizabethton always has a solid team with Witten being their Coach

To be more optimistic and enjoying the orange/blue Gatorade, I think the govs are gonna surprise people next year. The success of the other sports show that the athletes are still in LA. I think they win 2-3 on top of the 4 gimmes. AND...there will be a banquet!

Just to play devil's advocate, WB lost (to graduation or transfer) 3 starting DBs, 2 starting LBs, a DL, at least 2 starting O linemen, starting TE, starting RB, and top 4 WRs.  on a 3 win team. That's a lot to replace.

As far as other sports success, which teams specifically are you thinking about and how would it transition to success on the football field?

The boys basketball team had arguably  one of their best senior classes since 1985, I think they finished 12-15.

Hammer their all excited because Mr. Cupp upgraded their system from Shad 4.0 to the all new Shad 5.0 just recently. It's supposed to deliver 2 more wins from what all I heard down at Woody's BP the other day when I stopped in for some hot dogs.

Just trying to be optimistic, but I’ll take a shot. The basketball team is competitive in most every game they play-both girls and boys. The baseball team must be doing pretty good-they may be county champs this year. To be honest, I don’t follow track or soccer-this is ET after all. The middle school program has been pretty good for several years in a row. Plus I’ve got a fridge full of orange and blue Gatorade, so I’m sticking with my early prediction. 4 patsies and 2-3 hard fought victories. O/U for wins is 6.5.

Optimism is good. I don't think I can as high as you on the O/U, however.

The middle school record is deceiving. WB Middle combines two middle schools into one football team, basically all of the feeder schools for an 1800 kid HS. Then they schedule teams often half their size. Examples, Loudon feeder for a 3A school, Seymour feeder for a 2-8 (5A) HS, Eagleton a small school that feeds 0-10 Heritage HS, Northview feeder for a 3A hs, etc.

Its not surprising that the middle school record hasn't translated to 6A high school football success.

Murvil and alco both have one feeder school (without credit for recruiting). I had thought the combining of those two struggling county middle school football programs was a good thing? Heck, I would even offer that combining the blount county high school football programs could be a good thing after the hurt was gone.

I don't know enough about the out of town middle school programs to know who is good and who is not. My kid's team scrimmaged Ocoee last year, and they were the best team we saw. I have no idea how big of a school they are.

IMO-regardless of the sport, coaches of youth sports should try to schedule as many wins as losses AND losses as wins (i.e. a 4-4 or 5-3 team will learn more about itself than an 0-8 or 8-0 team).

I'm keeping it at 6.5 for now and assume they scheduled well. The good people in LA deserve a winner!

I'm a 3-7, 2-8, 3-7* genius then!

*Teachers strike/lockout lost season. (I'm still mad)

My point about combining the schools is that it gives them a false confidence because they are schedule schools with often less than half of the enrollment of the two combined WB schools. Similar to a 17 year old 8th grader.

I respectfully but strongly  disagree with the bold statement. Consolidation of the county high schools into the two big schools was the single worst decision the county has made in the last 40 years. Remember the county had a state champ less than 4 years before consolidation as well as teams in the finals, None in the last 40. Community pride in their community schools was a very real thing back in the day. Kids that live 16 miles from the school they attend are unlikely to have any real connection to the school.

I agree there are a lot of great kids, teachers and parents at WB.

    • He resigned smh, and have you ever heard of charged but not convicted. Some people in this county baffle me with their need to slander others. Have you asked any of the 30+ parents that signed a petition to get him reinstated at the board meeting this week how they feel about this? Just let it play out, at the end of the day the only people that will bring TC back are the ones that know what its about at its core.    People hate losing and they aren't used to it at TC. I for 1, and I'm sure others too, understand having a dip in talent and not being able to compete for a state title every year. But in the past, TC teams have outworked more talented teams, they didn't continuously lose the turnover battle, they didn't commit 8+ penalties in several games each season, and I believe several of the folks in town that want Blake out feel as if he is neglecting the history of the program. This is from a source that used to be extremely close to the program (not me lol), Blake gets out of school midday and the players show up and there is no practice plan or itinerary.  I also understand those that are on team Blake, when he has loads of talent, he wins. He does know football and he is a tremendous DC, and if the rumors are true then he will do great things. As for the board member issue, it is what it is, everyone that's true to the county know that and nothing has changed. I agree though that they should strive to make the facilities as good as we can. And as far as potential candidates, I agree there is very few options. West, Vetetoe (yes I know), and couple others that could have some interest. Whatever happens is massive for the program during a pivotal time before the next big wave of stars make their way through.
    • McKenzie had no trouble with Huntingdon.
    • Has BA landed any cornfed cowboys to block up front?
    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
