McConnell would be a great choice.

I've seen the QB from Westview play, and he is a legit runner and passer.

But, not sure if the play makers are there like Waverly has had the past few seasons.

Plus that region is no joke.  Riverside is Waverly's only real competition in their current region.

True about region schedule.......but look at their out of region schedule.  Fairview, Huntingdon, Davidson Academy.  I think that schedule has prepared them for playoffs.

Definitely a tough non-region.  I don't think Westview would have been close in any of those, as everyone was a high scoring shootout.  But maybe with a new attitude, Westview could turn into the same thing.

I look for Waverly to get by CA tonight, and most likely Riverside again or/Lewis.

New rumor on street today is Eric Swenson moving over from Huntington :o...

He runs the single wing..the end, thats his thing. If the kid is agreat QB  you dont want him as your coach. His QB run and block 98% of the time. The guy is a winner though. His wife is a Mustang grad..never gonna happen IMHO   McConnell  is looking to move up the ladder. His goal is college  or even pro. He will need to move to a bigger school soon and he likes to pass. His stud QB is gone after this season. More than likely the best choice and Waverly pays bad as well

The coach from Haywood is a big possiblity runs a great offensive system for simpson and the running back at westview. I'd say he's the best option right now. Him and the Waverly guy

They'd have to match his salary that haywood is giving him or more. He got a huge pay raise when they named him assistant principal.

I can confirm Kevin Ward was in Martin today. Fact. Also David Barker is on staff at Westview. RUMOR (can’t confirm as fact) is that he is interested. He has previous head coaching experience.

I hear Barker is interested, but administration isn't wanting to give the job to anyone currently on staff. They are truly wanting to make a splash and get rid of what's been there in the past.

I would be blow away if Ward took this job... He is a proven winner and would really turn things around for the chargers.... Very interested to see how this plays out.

Everyone talks about the simpson kid. I did not see it. Yea he has an arm and was big but I did not see " elite " stuff from him. He looked like he had a ton of potential but I just did not see it.

    • Not sure how I would put it as recruiting perhaps kids trying to better their career by going to a head coach and coaching staff with connections all over college football that gets them the opportunity to go play college football and be coached by a coach with a pretty good track record.
    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
