Hey they are the defending state champions.

True, they also lost 4 starters and return only 3 players who got a lot of playing time last. Honestly, their best player may be Tidwell who hasn’t played since early in his freshman year. They are good but basing your “bets” off of last year? Should be great games between Loretto/Summertown in boys and girls.

Perry County is a sleeper team. Don’t think they can take down the Eagles. Watching there Junior Varsity games from last year and the varsity, the team has a bright future. Their point guard and shooting guard on the Jv team have tremendous promise. This year or 2019 is there time to shine.

The Eagles put it on them pretty bad in Linden

72-24

Summertown will/should be favorite to win with Loretto and Wayne County fighting for next two spots. Perry County has young talent that needs experience and Collinwood lost all starters from last year.

1. Summertown

2. Loretto

3.Wayne Co.

4. Perry County

5. Collinwood

6. Frank Hughes

Wayne Co gave Summertown all they could handle in the Barn before falling by 2 in OT. It may be a 3 team race for the top spot!

Exciting to see all the teams battle it out for the top spot. Your region foes in District 11 are watching closely. We have a big game Friday against Columbia academy so we will see how we play against a better opponent.

How did it go playing a better opponent?

It is was a defensive struggle most of the game. Columbia academy is a very good team, and it showed tonight. It was a close game throughout until Columbia pulled away in the fourth. We missed a free makeable shots and turned the ball over at key times late in the game.  I was very impressed on how our defensive played. We held them to 4 points in the first quarter, and switched between a man and a zone.  We got frustrated at times with their defensive pressure but I thought we played well against it. It was the first time where each position for them had a better player in it than we did. At the end of the day, there are still some things we have to work on. We must get better breaking the press and finishing in the paint. This is the first time that a big time team came into our gym and they brought a good crowd. I am encouraged on the effort that was shown, and I think this loss motivated them for the rest of the season.

With just a few district games left, the top 4 teams have pretty much shaken out. Anything can happen in a tournament game but Loretto, Summertown, Wayne Co. And Perry Co. have shown to be the better teams. Loretto/Summertown have big game Friday night which could have implications in district tournament seeding. Along with PC/WC playing the same night which could determine who finishes 3rd and 4th.... Tournaments are about matchups and PC has the home court for the district tourney.... It will be interesting to see.
