Reading some of this stuff about Oakland having a terrible wingT offense and not being near as good as teams from other States is comical.  Of course Whitehaven was criticized 2 years ago and Maryville has taken lots of criticism.  Who cares about other States? Oakland is your 6A Champions.  I respect Oakland a lot. Even though they are now a rival to Maryville.  I think Oakland is a classy program. When Oakland and Maryville play each other there is respect shown.

I don't care what offense Oakland runs. I have seen them run wingT but also spread you out. Their offense is good enough.  Oakland wins with defense.  What they did to Maryville and Whitehaven is very impressive.  Congratulations to Oakland on a state title.

Thank you for saying that RR. Hard for me to try to defend Oakland’s style of play and not sound like a complete homer.

We don’t play in a ‘sexy’ offense, but these seniors are the first class to go all the way through with Coach Creasy and they leave with a 4-year record of 53-5, 1 silver ball, and 1 gold ball. Never lost a home game or a Region game the entire time. They play hard and clean. And they play for the guys on either side of them. I’ll take those things all day long with an emphasis on defense and special teams. It has proven successful more often than not.

Yes actually, Oakland's offense is impressive. Everybody knows they are going to run the ball, most teams stack the line. Even Whitehaven had 8 near the line of scrimmage at times expecting a run and you just can not stop them! Hence the difference in the  time of possession!

I would rank this Oakland team right up there with the best teams from Rutherford county. You seen last night they can throw the ball if they need to, but when you are up big by the run what better way to control the game, run run and run. If I remember correctly Oakland came out in the Maryville semi final game in the 3rd quarter and had a 9 minute drive.

Oakland wing t is a hybrid not your typical two tight end set. Occasionally they do that. They run shotgun an even a triple I in short yardage situations. They at times have 2 and 3 wideouts. Sure there run game is there bread and butter but all that other stuff makes them hard to prepare for. There are top high school teams all over the country that run the wing t from Oregan, Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and so forth. Also have you notice how well they do in 7 on 7 competition. Believe it or not they can pass when needed.

To my Whitehaven fans, alumn, and whatnot:

Last night was a nightmare! I sat in the stands watching the game unfold and I thought to myself .... "Now I gotta go back and face eers!"

I know BHS has more to say but he is restraining himself.

Our Offense looked totally inept. We didn't generate a first down until mop-up time. My hat is off to the defense, because when the O continually goes three and out and you have to fend off that bunch with goal-line stance after goal-line stance. It gets TIRING. You did very well to only allow 37 points! How may times did we hold at the goal line? I forget.

To the WH O. That was embarrasing! I'm being kind. The athletes are in place. It is NOT the jimmy and Joes fault. I know about the fumble, but that didn't get our tails whipped. No offensive production at all. I know the Oakland defense is good. I give them the credit they are due. But ... no first downs with all of that talent? I know we lost #14 ... that is no excuse either. That was the eptiome of under performance. That was horrible. That was just plain ole' pathetic.

Well, at least my wife got an opportunity to see her folks.

KWC I don’t know if you remember but I told you weeks ago that Whitehaven’s Offensive scheme was horrible and would bite them down the road against REAL competition.  I think your response was not to even entertain the debate regarding the offensive scheme—as if it was a non-issue.  I saw this beat down coming no matter if it was Oakland or Maryville.  West TN football blinders all day. GL next year.

Thanks for the well wishing. I don't think the offensive play calling gave the players an opportunity to succeed. I will leave it at that.

I think we will be fine next season. We will again be in the hunt. That's all you can ask really.

You came back.

I was being a little funny with the phrase boat race, but I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful to you guys. I just honestly didn’t feel it would be a game. WH has some talent, but Oakland was the complete package. From what I had seen, I knew the QB would have a tough night.

Congratulations on the season, it’s still an accomplishment nonetheless.

Ya that Scheme did just fine in 2016 ... 2012 too . So Whitehaven's Terrible scheme has 2 6A State Championships to Oakland's 1 now .

    • Ouch! If he's in the scrap business maybe
    • That's a nice story but has little to nothing to do with what we're talking about.
    • The winds of change are blowing in Hartsville.     Will be an interesting follow.    Would go back to the 90s and turn black the clock!
    • Did he promise you a coordinator job or something if he ever got a head coaching job? He resigned? He was at the top of the dugout last night calling plays. I wonder if those 30+ parents would let him give their kids a ride. by the way the board meeting was last night and it was not mentioned. must have been at the work session earlier this week which is not public. must be trying to keep it quiet.  Since you know so much, how much is Robbie Atwood willing to pay Adam Cothron?  Didn't you slander Eden earlier on here? You also didn't know he was a faculty coach again so how much do you really know? Some people outside this county baffle me with their need to slander others.
    • He resigned smh, and have you ever heard of charged but not convicted. Some people in this county baffle me with their need to slander others. Have you asked any of the 30+ parents that signed a petition to get him reinstated at the board meeting this week how they feel about this? Just let it play out, at the end of the day the only people that will bring TC back are the ones that know what its about at its core.    People hate losing and they aren't used to it at TC. I for 1, and I'm sure others too, understand having a dip in talent and not being able to compete for a state title every year. But in the past, TC teams have outworked more talented teams, they didn't continuously lose the turnover battle, they didn't commit 8+ penalties in several games each season, and I believe several of the folks in town that want Blake out feel as if he is neglecting the history of the program. This is from a source that used to be extremely close to the program (not me lol), Blake gets out of school midday and the players show up and there is no practice plan or itinerary.  I also understand those that are on team Blake, when he has loads of talent, he wins. He does know football and he is a tremendous DC, and if the rumors are true then he will do great things. As for the board member issue, it is what it is, everyone that's true to the county know that and nothing has changed. I agree though that they should strive to make the facilities as good as we can. And as far as potential candidates, I agree there is very few options. West, Vetetoe (yes I know), and couple others that could have some interest. Whatever happens is massive for the program during a pivotal time before the next big wave of stars make their way through.
