Can't wait till next Friday. I've had this game on my radar for abt 9 months now. It's back near the top and easy to find so no reason for the Haven/NLR board to get hijacked again.

No reason at all. And before anyone tries to insinuate otherwise, the BA loss to McCallie, does not, in any way, shape, form, or fashion, reduce the expectency, of this game. I don't want to read that garbage.

Anyway ... BGIM 3. I gotta go grade papers. brb.

I don't think it even has to be said that we cant get caught sleeping this game. Consistency is the main thing we lacked last year. The leadership and experience that we got on the offensive and defensive side of the ball will be key to getting through this gauntlet of road games for the next two month. BA is totally different type of beast than what we faced last night. NLR tested our run defense, I assume BA likes to sling it and will put our secondary and pass defense to the test. Cant wait!

Caught sleeping? With BA next? Surely you jest! I know they are just teenagers, but still.

Anyway, I agree, BA presents another set of issues. NLR will just run over you if you allow them to do that. We didn't allow them the opportunity to do that. That's not what BA does, even though they have a solid run game. This will be a different game altogether.

Agree also about the leadership of this team. It's what you want to see from those young men. It's great to observe when done right.

The rest of the state may think otherwise but Whitehaven should be the clear favorite against teams like these.

I agree with you. Big mighty school in Memphis 2500 kids 1000 boys to pick from and all the people who move there to play for WH versus a itty bitty private school in the most affluent county in Tennessee with 170 boys in the entire school 9-12.

You guys may end up playing your JV team come second half but should be a good walk in the park for all those sec bound athletes you have.

i would imagine your 2nd and 3rd strings would start on BA. I hope we have enough space in our locker rooms to accommodate the number of players you have and since we don’t have visitor stands will apologize for the lousy atmosphere here where you have to sit with and among people who rarely clap during a game. We also have no band so I look forward to hearing a loud WH section and you guys march up and down the field carving up a tiny private school on your way to a running clock.

All kidding aside I do agree with you - think any big 6a school should be favored over most of the private’s any given year but we still have to play this game on the field

All joking aside I do think WH should be favored for this game. This is a young BA team that has the necessary pieces but needs experience and tough games to mature.

They are balanced but have a young d line and both starters at secondary are out.  They have  kinks to work out - namely the slowwwwwwww starts that have been the norm in all 3 games. Hasn’t been till the 2nd half where the light has come on.

WH IMO is the best team BA has played this year and they will need to be clicking on all cylinders to stay in this game. If they get down early by a few touchdowns it will be a long evening

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
