So how does this work out with like track programs since they don't have tracks at their schools either? do they share the stadium for practice and meets as well?

They use the stadium for track meets and football games; It’s the designated home field for Ridgeway and Whitestation. I don’t think anyone practices up there.

So if you know, how can schools like White Station, Ridgeway, and Overton seemingly (based on looking at google maps) exists with seemingly no athletic facilities on campus (a track or stadium capable of hosting a home football game) while Whitehaven, Cordova, etc... have those amenities? Are the track and stadium results of fundraising efforts by their booster club? Were those paid for through school board funding?

Some of the Memphis posters can give more details. But I believe consolidation had a lot to do with it. Several years ago there were Memphis city school and Shelby Co. school. A lot of the old Shelby co. Schools had good facilities. Then Memphis city schools gave up there charter and a lot of the county schools did not form their own district and stayed in Shelby Co. this would be one reason you see some schools like Cordova (which was in the old Shelby Co) have good facilities while some more centralized Memphis schools do not. I’m sure there are more reasons. This may just be one.

It is a long and drawn out story. When the school systems were seperate the schools under the city charter shared facilities. A lot of these facilities were independant of a particular school ... ergo the sharing of facilities. When this was in full efferct, the City's Parks and Recreation department were responsible for the managment and mantinance of these facilities. There are some schools in the city that have fields but most of those were recently built schools. Even in those cases, there were annexation issues going on, as well as, other issues.

It started many many years ago when the city was trying to be frugal and maintain these facilities using the least amount of funds as they possibly could. It has resulted in what we have today.

Thanks for the response KWC. Do schools that have like cordova and whitehaven share facilities with those that have not? Or are those schools that have not still reliant on City maintained facilities?

Currently, there is one school system that is run by the county. The schools that were sharing facilities before the city voluntarily gave up it's charter are still sharing the same fields. Those schools that were a part of the county school system that had their own fields and didn't share facilities, still don't share facilities. Whitehaven shares their facility because it shared its facilities before the city dropped it's charter. Esseintially, nothing has changed in that regard.

Most schools that were under the city schools system were in vicinity of each other or the facility. That's not the case with the schools that were originally under the county's charter. those schools are spread out and isolated, so to speak, as compared to the schools that were under the city school's charter.  That's it basically. There are other scenerios that came into play, as you can well imagine, but that is it in a nutshell.
