Yes 2011 team was a Great team. The loss to Morristown West kind of takes them out of the running in this fun little IFL league lol. But j will say this they had a great defense and they tried to make sure Jamel stayed healthy and didn't let him run the ball as much as he could have because he was so important to the team kind of what 2018 team did with ty youngblood. If he had got the ball more against Morristown e I think they win that game. They did give it to him a bunch against Alcoa and it was a blowout win. So I do think they should be in the conversation along with 2017. But I still go with 2010 and 2018 at the top

I would say this year team was the Best but the 2010 team was better than 2011.  A lot of Starters on 2011 started or played on the 2010.  It's hard to replace BJ at RB and Willie at QB (Thats not a knock on Tanner "The Tank" either).  In your opinion what Positions was the 2011 team better than the 2010 team?  2011 also had a loss to MW who got drilled in the Quarter Finals.

2011 team was better at every position except QB and center. They returned 17 of 22 starters. Thats 17 positions that had another year in Greeneville's program getting bigger, stronger, faster, and another year of experience. In 2011 Taylor Shuffler and Jamel Hall replaced Spradlin at RB. Shuffler is one of the fastest players to ever come out of Gville and ask anybody around how much fun they had trying to tackle Jamel. Tyrus Rollins replaced Chaz Story at linebacker, who ended up being All-State his senior year. Willie Carmichael at QB was a huge lost from 2010 to 11 but Tanner Stewart came in and had an All-State year. 2011 team had 9 All-State players, including a Mr. Football winner and another finalist on the D-Line. Line of scrimmage play is what separates this team from every other team in Greeneville history. If 2011 team lines up in Beef package and hands the ball off to Jamel Hall 25 times then no other team is stopping it.

Not going to Argue that Shuffler is one of the fasted players to every come out of Greeneville.  The Difference between 2010 and 2011 is 2010 never lost a game so its hard to say that that the 2011 is the best team ever when they put up only 10 points against MW.  With BJ at RB in 2010 that freed up Shuffler to be the Leading Receiver and also get touches in the back field with a different Pace than BJ's Bruising running Style.  In My opinion Story was a better LB than Rollins (Just from an experience level and having 2 years of starting at MLB under his belt.)(This is coming from a 3 years starter at LB for Greeneville who knows both Chaz and Tyrus)  You also lost BJ at the OLB position and Willie at Safety off that 2010 team.  The 2011 team had more Players going both ways with the departure of the 2010 Starters.  If you line up the 2011 team and ran at the 2010 team you would basically be running at yourself except having Malone at DT, BJ at OLB, Chaz at MLB, and Willie at Safety. 2010 put up more points and gave up less points than the 2011 team did also. I would bet this year D would have something to say about no other team stopping Jamel.  Bear front with Everhart, Gillespie-Taylor, Shipley, Goddard, Seaton, Knight, or Greenway and having Hite and Albright Safety  (2 big body Safety that neither the 2010 or 2011 team had) and Youngblood and Kershaw at MLB's.  This year team in my opinion is the best team to ever wear the Greene and White with the combination of Size, Speed, and just plain Nastyness  when its comes to overall team

I'm glad this thread isn't about what Devil team, coach or player was the toughest .A whole bunch of us might have an argument on the team but none of us reading this would stand a chance at being the toughest Devil to ever play or coach the Devils. All of the old timers know who hands down would be the man.

I remember myself or nobody would mess with him when we were in school and I guess he was sixty or  so at the time.He was the teacher in DE or whatever is was when you could go work and one day he was checking on me at work .Ha Ha,just thinking about him saying he would kick my backside {maybe not that nice} for something there at Giant food market. You could say and do things back then that wouldn't go across to well in this messed up time.I told him I'd take his azz out any way I had to and he looked at me and started laughing. One of those he was joking to begain with but respected my toughness  kind of things.

i was hoping you would weigh in on this  topic...oh and i betcha Tyrus would agree with you about Chaz too.  I think this team would mercy rule most any other team in the state at any classification......i said "Most" any other, so before someone on here throws maryville or oakland at me, remember that.....and yes, i think this team would mercy rule alcoa...just because i think alcoa would have no  hope of stopping this offense and i dont think alcoa's offense could say the same.....covington shut them down most of the game and i didnt think anyone would do that.

That takes me back a day or two.Freddy,Bobby and all my teammates when we were at Sunnyside.Undefeated Champs before I went my way and they went to SG.Somebody put up  a steak dinner  for who could take Freddy out of the game when we played the first ever game as 9th graders between GHS and SG.They were loaded but we went undefeated that year and beat them by about 4 or 5 touchdowns.Just remembered, there was a good picture in the Greeneville Sun of me and Freddy where I'm taking on a blocker before I tackled Freddy.I didn't try to hurt any of my friends but I gave them a rough time that day.

There's been a lot of great teams come out of Greeneville High, but I believe starting with the 2009 team it started something bigger; they set the bar by making it to the 1st state championship game. They paved the way so to speak for starting the Greeneville High Football championship runs in the past decade. The 2010, 2011, 2017 & 2018 Championship teams have set the standard for others who will go on to play Football for Greeneville, and I also believe it has created a positive noise/challenge to other NET teams to get there.

There's No doubt in my mind the 2018 Team is the best that I have had an opportunity to see come out of Greeneville High and for that matter, the whole state of TN.  Why do I believe this? (Their unselfishness, leadership, an unwavering confidence that they were not going to be denied a WIN and that showed consistently throughout every game in a dominating fashion. On both sides of the ball they had Lots of talent, size, speed, discipline, and definitely their STRENGH & CONDITIONING. They had a huge target on their backs from the get go. The coaching staff, fan base, and most of the state of TN expected them to repeat. They never waivered once under pressure.  Fact is they dominated in every aspect of the game in every game)...

I know that I did not have the opportunity to see every team in the state of TN play this year, but with the NFHS, and some of the televised games, it has allowed a lot of us to be able to watch other teams play.  Yea sure maybe the likes of Alcoa, or Knox Central, Oakland would have put up a good argument, but let's be real here.  After watching all the 2018 state championship games, BIG GREENE in my humble opinion is undeniably hands down another lever above all the rest.  There was just something very special about this 2018 team and they for sure will be remembered as being one of the most dominate, if not "THE DOMIMANT TEAM" in the state of TN. for 2018.   3peat coming 2019 GO BIG GREENE!

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
