Me

We started a big ole 8th grader at guard and he was one of our better linemen by seasons end.Took ole Thunder For a lightning ride in the semis more than once.Got another in 7th grade who will be on varsity next year and they say he is very mature for his age also.Takes a pretty good kid to play line at the level we play at right now.

It does sound by the topic that mommy or daddy have a kid coming up,pretty randim topic!

What’s a Condra kid doing in jasper I thought they come from whitwell! So when can you start telling when a kid going to be good then

Well us professional recruiters first use what is called the eye test.Does he look the part? Most at that age that can contribute have mature statures about them.Speed, durability can he take a hit.Skill positions can usually contribute earlier that linemen unless like ST said they are a freak of nature.Does he stand out either in a good way or a bad way?Smart coaches can tell quickly. Most coaches still bring them along at a slower pace just to get used to playing with 17 and 18 year olds alot of difference in most 14 year olds compared to 17 and 18.

You can tell right away if a kid can play and eventually do well if they stay with it and put in the necessary work.  But to say which 8th grader is gonna help out the varsity team those type players are rare.  Those you mentioned will be some to watch.  The Condra boy from Jasper stood out to me.

Welcome to the T.

How often does a group of kids that had success in sequatchie youth league winning and playing for harvest bowls carry over to success in high school. I know the 16 seq co and this yr whitwell team are perfect examples

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
