Bradley Central in Nike Tournament of Champions

The Bearetttes won their 1st round game game 40-35 over Beaverton, Oregon, the #1 ranked team in Oregon. They'll next face Highlands Ranch, Colorado, the #1 ranked team in Colorado on Thursday at 10:00 Arizona time.

One good thing about the Bearettes is that you won't have to worry about their behavior when they are out of town. It's a part of the Bearette legacy that tradition and pride take precedence over personal satisfaction. With our coaching staff and young ladies there are no worries.

Good luck Bradley Central. It's good to see other teams have to play them.  Their presence at the Ladies Classic in Greeneville has always given the tournament a great deal of prestige. Amy Geren, Paige Redmon and Rhyne Howard were fun to watch. Howard is making a splash at Kentucky. Not a surprise.

With a 2-2 record I doubt that Beaverton is the #1 ranked team in Oregon.

Beaverton, OR is the #25 team in Oregon according to link below.  Last season they were 24-5 and #10 team in Oregon according to MaxPeps.  Either way Bradley wasn't playing a scrub team and its a good win.   Bradley is a very good team.

Howard could very well be rookie of the year in womens college ball. So much talent comes out of that school to to not have more banners than we do hanging in the gym.

IIRC, they did not win a state title during the time Howard was playing at Bradley. The team was/is deep in talent. Maybe this year?

So a couple of things:

One, the slight towards Cleveland in the post about the behavior is slightly out of line. This could have happened to anyone, and I feel so sorry for those coaches and athletes who have had this reported on in a smaller media market, that continued to get reported on until the decision by the activity council. We were all teenagers at one point and made some mistakes so the best thing for everybody is to move past that and give those kids some forgiveness because they don't need to be judged more than they already have.

Two, Beaverton (Ore.) was number one according to the OSAA at the time. The state association there goes by an RPI ranking, and because the two teams they lost to were out of state in Washington, and their two wins were against Oregon teams (Tigard was #1 when they played while Beaverton was #3) and won they jumped to #1. They are currently ranked two in the RPI ranking after going 1-3 in the Nike TOC. Below is the direct link to their team page on the OSAA website.

Three, Bradley ended up going 3-1 and taking fifth place in the second tier bracket out of seven brackets. They were in the highest bracket out of the teams from Tennessee and lost to a very good Highlands Ranch team who went on to take third place. They did pretty well in Phoenix. They are a tough team who is deep and you never know who is going to step up and be the player for that game, making it hard to prepare for but fun to watch.

Fourthly, Hohmaster. Really? Why must you consistently get on these boards and talk down the Bearettes and their head coach? You do not know those girls or the people who work with them every day. If you were to ask anybody who is around them on a daily basis you would hear nothing but that they are great kids who work hard and play hard for their coach. 

Lastly, thank you Americal198 for the link to the Bearette website. They have worked hard to revamp it and make it look clean and easy to read. The history is fascinating and it is a lot of fun to see the continued success of a storied program who has an all-time record of 2,212-488-9 for an 85 percent winning percentage. They are the winningest program boys or girls in the TSSAA and they continue that story with pride and grace while also honoring the history.

I went to the Greeneville Ladies Classic last night for the first round. I missed the early games, but believe some great teams are playing this year. None greater than Bradley's teams of the past. You all will be missed and we hope you will return next year or in the near future.

Your points are all well taken and serve as a good reminder that these players are still kids—as we all were at one time.
