The financial aid was curbed when the split took place and the cry babies still wanted a split.  My recommendations will never take place but as a public school kid I will tell you that the message that is being sent is that we are not good enough to compete.  I never ever felt that private school kids were ever smarter or better athletes than me and resent the message being sent.  Stop being soft and figure out a way to compete.  The public school kids have to compete for academic awards, college admissions and jobs when they graduate so why not compete on the athletic field?

Brother you are on point. I grew Up in public school. We loved it when we had to play MUS and ECS.  We took it personal. Now I have Kids in a private school and all we see is the public’s scared to play the privates.  It shows the kids and parents  to be soft and complain and then create a new divsision to make sure it is fair. Guess what life is not fair. It won’t be long before public’s complain because of open enrollment. T$$AA is concerned about money?  Heck stop bowing down to the loudest voice. Be legit. Police the schools limit the classes and have a true champion. Read an article about how T$$AA lost money this year?  Well it is easy. Stop making it so easy to make playoffs. heck teams can have a loosing record and make the playoffs. Really?? Waterdowned. Everyone step up play football and compete. Just as our slogan is. Compete or complain. Tennessee has a choice. Compete and make money. Or complain and drain it dry. This crap of everyone gets a trophy is pitiful. My boy played private in D1. We won some and lost a bunch. Who cares. It was real completion. My sons grew from that and had a blast playing the public’s. Guess what I had A blast  playing the privates in my day. You want to make money T$$AA have a state championship of Whitehaven vs Brentwood academy. No that won’t hapen because someone has an unfair advantage. The unfair advantage are the adults trying to make it fair for their kids. Step up. Complain or compete.

I agree they should have the same number of classes for all sports. Let’s have 3 for football just like they do the other sports. That would be fair.

3 isn’t fair. Schools like ours with 220-240 kids havea tough time competing with schools with double the enrollment. No state I know of only has 3 classes. I could go with 5 classes for every sport though.

I agree. My point is you only here this on the football threads. Go over to the basketball and baseball and no one ever mentions it. And there are more schools that play those sports.

RLH.. there would be some quick seasons for us small schools. 4 classes isn’t enough. No other state around has 4 classes so why should TN? We already get the worst venue in the southeast to host state title games at Tech.

Some of those states have 5 to 10x the schools.  For example, Florida, Texas, California.  Plus, if you do the math on 4 classes with the current public schools, you would pic up a about 1/4th of the current 2a schools and we seem to be running into those anyway as the drift back and forth i.e. Onion City and Trouser County not to forget McKenzie.

I could maybe see 5 if the big privates were in 5a and the other financial aid privates etc in 4a.   Plus, they could set the 1a cut at 375 regardless of the numbers in the upper classification. 2a and 3a could be set as well.  In other words, 4a would be open ended of sorts.

No one has said anything about going back to 3 in football.  As far as basketball goes, there should be at least 4.  Sam Brooks was the pioneer of the basketball classification.  for the first few years in the 70s, there was only 2 classes then it caught up to the A-AA-AAA football format by the mid to late 70s.

I also agree 375 cutoff in 1A.
